Solar installers and suppliers

People with solar geysers probably don’t have enough load to maximize solar production during the day so your batteries will be fully charged at 10am and then it just matches the load so your ROI will be very long if you don’t have Aircon’s and whatnot to power on during the day when your 6kW array throttles down to 500W to match the load.

SMALL-SCALE EMBEDDED GENERATION (SSEG): COMMISSIONING APPROVAL FOR AN INVERTER WITH A MAXIMUM CAPACITY OF 5KVA GRID TIED HYBRID (SOURCE WITH BATTERIES) WITH NO EXPORT AT ERF 0000, CPT.

The existing meter will be changed. This commissioning approval and applicable tariff shall only be valid from the date that the meter has been installed. For all queries related to the installation of the City supplied meter, please contact the MRP team at [email protected] using the notification reference number. Failure to have the existing meter replaced with a split prepayment meter will result in your supply being disconnected, with you being cost responsible for any and all reconnection costs. The SSEG installation shall not be connected to the City's electricity distribution grid before this meter installation date.

Note that the SSEG installation must at all times conform to regulatory requirements and national standards at the point of supply interface. People and equipment safety is of prime importance and you are responsible for and accountable in terms of legislation to ensure that the equipment is operated and maintained to meet the regulatory electrical protection and quality of supply requirements. The City of Cape Town will not be liable in any way in connection with problems caused by your embedded generation installation. This includes liability for any losses incurred or damage to life or property as a result of safety issues or negligence relating to the design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation or maintenance of the embedded generation installation. The electricity connection to the property may be disconnected if requirements are not met. Retrospective compliance will be required for existing installations whenever regulations (e.g. the South African Grid Codes, NERSA,OHS Act, etc.) and standards (e.g. SANS, NRS, etc.) are amended.

Has anyone here been through this ?

Once your systems is commissioned, the city then passes on your application to the electical installations department who will then schedule the installation of your new split meter.

They should get in contact with you. Send a mail to the address in the ltter after a week to follow up. Will likely get the below response.

The meter is free. It is only the AMI (for feeding back) that you have to pay for. Elex Khanyise will likely be the company installing the meter.
