Some boards don't allow free advertising and I didn't want to have any problem with the board administrators

I still think people should group together on this, with the right deal R7 or less per watt should be achievable, individually everyone is getting ripped off, R8.20 a watt is really not that great of a deal.

Well for some reason people are very hush hush :D They are not suppose to sell to South Africans or something along that line.

Well, if the reseller buys at R7/Watt (which is certainly not the case, even if/when buying 100+ panels at a time), and sells for R8.2 per/Watt - it's a mere 17% markup. Take into account transportation costs to get these panels to the reseller as well, and we are more than likely left with a +-5% markup. It's hardly a "rip off"...

If you can bypass the reseller and get them directly from the manufacturer, then hey go for it. But again, you are the exception. Please don't bad mouth the industry because you are an exception.

It's easy for me to say that because I can buy a hard drive directly at Rectron/Mecer/Frontosa/however, all computer stores are a ripoff... It's not the case, and 99% of consumers CAN'T buy directly from the manufacturers / importers either.

If you can buy it at a substantially lower price then they *are* a rip off. Stores that move large volumes of items get them at discount over what other people can get (even if said people go straight to the manufacturer) and then still add a *fat* markup on top of that.
This country has huge issues with greedy industries charging exorbitant markups way above international norms and consumers that are either unaware or simply unable/unwilling to stand up for themselves.

It is a crying shame that people would rather get ripped off individually than actually communicate with one another and get things at a reasonable price.

Sounds like a case for the competition commission quite honestly, I smell price collusion, it is after all standard business practice here.

That is so true. When I bought my panels my installer first quoted me R3600 incl VAT for the 300W renesolar panels. Then I told them I can get it for much cheaper and they lowered their price to R2900. Still quite expensive but that was a huge difference.

Yeah, R12/R13 or even higher seems to be the 'standard' that the industry tries to fleece people here for.
It is rather disgusting, Eskom has handed our solar industry the chance of a lifetime to grow a massive new market and make a real change in the world, lead a real green revolution etc.
However instead they would rather fleece a small group of rich people. Most people won't even consider solar now because they have heard how expensive it is, things could be so different.

check your mailbox

Hi

Would you please send me the details as well.
Also busy looking at solar.
Going through the motions of deciding to import vs getting locally.
If the local price is good, then definitely an option for less hassle.

Thanks !

Interesting, I just got a quote back from Renesola SA. They only want to sell in carton boxes of 20. So for guys not wanting to buy in multiples of 20, it might make sense to try and find others in the same city and club together.

I'll take 10 panels, if you take the other 10 ;)
