Solar plants now power the whole Northern Cape

With yet another renewable energy (RE) project completed on time and on budget, one has to wonder why the Departments of Energy (DoE) and Public Enterprises (DPE) tolerate Eskom’s continued refusal to sign additional power producer agreements.

Eskom is digging a grave similar to Telkom's. It will take one court judgement to allow the metropoles to self-procure and blow this monopoly apart. Tick-tock!

Still, it's something and a move in the right direction.

It's fine - people, complexes and towns will just build their own solar distribution and bypass Eskom completely. The price of solar keeps dropping and with the amount of sunshine we have is a fully viable alternative to stinky dangerous coal.

Untill they put a tax on it because of loss of revenue. I suspect this will happen to people with boreholes and wellpoints also.

Ground water is a finite resource. Solar is not.

Pretty much will start happening soon. Wanting to get neighborhood done but not everyone understands what I'm trying to do. If everyone invests in say one or two panels and we connect em all, we can all be off grind(not everyone uses power at same time so you can be drawing off eg 2k panels throughout neighborhood to use direct and for charging your batteries instead of just 2 on your own roof)

Eskom(ANC) greed and theft has priced themselves out of the market(the market they have a monopoly on). Most of us are only using them as we can't afford alternatives YET. The day is coming it will be cheaper than remaining connected. Eskoms future is lots of debt, their customer base will eventually consist of those who refuse to pay, and those who steal.
