I started looking in building my own batteries. It is not a complicated concept and despite what everyone say, on paper it looks to be a lot cheaper
When I did my research into building my own batteries there wasn't much difference in cost. It didn't seem worth it to me.

To make an equivalent of a pylontech us3000 battery (48V 100Ah).

15 of the above cells at R1,024.95 each = R15374

I haven't added pricing for a BMS yet, or an enclosure, or wiring, etc.

A pylontech us3000 can be had for around R17500? And that's assembled and tested and working, in a nice clean/neat enclosure, ready to go, with a warranty.

The biggest factor that puts me off from building my own lithium battery is looking at information from:
These guys test a whole bunch of different batteries from different manufacturers. There are a LOT of failures from big manufacturers.

Seems pretty unlikely that I can do a bit of 'research' on google/forums and put together a better battery than these big companies with huge R&D budgets and years of experience.

TL/DR: My feelings is it's not cheaper to DIY and I can't build a battery as good as I need if big experienced companies are even struggling occasionally.

Agree.

Also, the warranty offered by the likes of Pylon and Hubble, FreedomWon etc makes the slight extra cost worth it.

Could you give a breakdown on why you went for these. There are quite a few threads where people went with batteries but no one really explain why the bought this battery instead of that battery.

It was basically reputation, I have friends, colleagues, neighbours and a friend who installs systems with them with zero issues and great feedback. We are looking at using Hubble’s in my inlaws upcoming 3 phase install with a 12kw SunSynk inverter and may do the same at our next house when we find it.
