Solar users in Cape Town could face substantially higher electricity bills

It is extreme socialism and it is not sustainable. People will simply move to areas where they are able to gain more from their hard work. SA cities are stuffed, CPT included.
Yes, it's not sustainable. What is the alternative?

Taxation in a nutshell. I was paying literally hundreds of thousands of rands more than most of the country, and that went up all the time, and I only saw decreases in service.

Not sure why you think it would be any different in a country that has insufficient taxpayers.
This is a massive increase for everyone, and the COCT used the Eskom increase as an opportunity to present it to us as a favour they're doing us.

Saving is from a 12% Eskom increase by only increasing by 2%, and they will do that by some changes to levies. Everyone happy, until they saw what it was. Wtf am I paying for Citywide cleansing? The hell with that.

100% understood.

Again, what's the alternative? You need to face up to the reality that you're trying to maintain a 1st world lifestyle in a 3rd world country.

Eventually they will run out of money , to much poor immigration to that area.
Clifton and Seapoint will soon be Hillbrow
They are already busy running out of money, hence the hyperinflation of rates and taxes. The DA also did nothing to secure more water. When water shortage hit again property prices will drop and so too will their rates income.

The alternative for CPT was to vote for Capexit, but the people failed to do that because they fell for DA socialist propaganda, and there are too many poor immigrant voters there now. Now it is becoming every middle class man for himself. Move away from SA cities.

That's not going to happen, that valuation is not based on market values, it's their own thumbsuck.

You are probably right about that. The best option is to move away from SA cities. Meanwhile the Garden Route property market is booming. I opted to try my luck in a small Boland municipality. Fork the COCT socialist scumbags!

Do you know anybody that lives in Knysna?

Oops yes with the exception of Knysna. I actually looked at Sedgefield to buy a house, but then I saw it is part of the Knysna municipality. Knysna got wrecked by the same socialist DA policies than in CPT. The rest of the Garden Route is booming.

I don't care. Getting ripped off like this is unacceptable but we have to accept it. That's how people get priced out.

Well "First world" is a bit of a misnomer (The EU maybe). Normal people in the US are also in a bit of a battle right now against the rapacious fossil fuel industry there. And they've got a tough time ahead of them, I think.

Thanks coincidentally to Einsteins who express much the same arguments there, as about half here who seem to have a knife in for the DA here. Though as a notably more Centrist party than the rest the DA seems to have it worse here than the Centre in the US does - Here both the far left and the far right are entitled blowhard trolls.

But then... That's one of the ways I know the DA's doing things the right way, with no stone left untouched.
  • Better life - Check
  • P$$s dom far right hates them- Check
  • P$$s dom far left hates them- Check

This is just pure nonsense, the DA is far left and extreme socialist. The DA is only out for power and money and is throwing the middle class under the bus to gain votes of the poor and indigent. As the the DA impose more socialism, the actual centrists are getting pissed off.

So tell me, what political party would EVER alienate the MAJORITY of voters in favour of the minority, with the inevitable result that they will get trounced in the next election?
You seem to be completely detached from reality.

No, that is not what I'm saying.
The DA _IS_ trying to prevent Cape Town from going the same way as other cities in SA. The problem is, it costs a lot of money to do that. You want CT to not go the same way, kak en betaal.
Enjoy those annual 40% increases.

I completely agree with you, the majority is far left, poor, and socialist, and any normal SA state party will happily destroy the middle class and impose extreme socialism. But then there was Capexit which is different, but people fell for DA propaganda. I am just pointing out to people that there is nothing great about the DA, it is socialist and it`s policies will lead to ruin. My advice is to move away from SA cities and to start seeing the DA for what it really is.

I disagree; all of my valuations have been +/-R100K below market value.
I'm saying that if the market turns and the market devalues, that the COCT is NOT going to drop their valuation. There are houses in my area that are millions undervalued by the City.

If the market turns, which it will, yes the DA/COCT will find a way to not lower their income from rates and taxes. They will probably be restrained at dropping their valuations, and then at the same time thumbsuck more fixed levies to ensure their income is protected.

And somehow you think Capexit is going to cater for the wealthy while abandoning the poor, and still remain sustainable and in power?
