Morning all,

I really hope someone can help me here.

I sold my car a few months back, but I have recently received a whole bunch of fines for offenses that have taken place after the sale.

The new owner has clearly not transferred the car, and I suspect he's sold it on.

To complicate matters the copies of signed documents and sale agreement where on my phone which was smashed (admittedly by myself in a fit of rage).

The only details of the new owner that I can scrounge is his email address, name and cell number.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this - affidavit on the sale perhaps?

Affidavit and all possible details. Send to relevant metro dept and call them.

They will clear the fine. But you must have the info of the person it must be transferred to else u wont come right

zero sympathy. store documents etc like a proper person in a safe place i.e. not on your goddamn phone especially if you are prone to behaving like an idiot. May I suggest a combination of a basic course in how to manage important documents and an anger management class.

You don't have paper copies of the signed documents??! How did you get the documents on the phone?
Hi thanks for the reply, I took pics of the originals when we signed them, he brought all the forms with him.

I completely agree with you - but to be fair that's a pretty angry reply.

Thanks Rabobi. I'll have to go down there and make my case.

Thanks all for the quick replies.

Can I assume that I still legally own the car?

Maybe apply for duplicate NATIS papers and scrap the car if the buyer is not co-operating.

Paper and cloud. Phones should be set up to backup to the automatically cloud anyway.

Angry? It's a lot of things, but don't put your issues with anger onto me. It's very blunt, direct, and a lot unsympathetic. I didn't sugarcoat or soften a single word in order to appear more understanding of the problem. I told you upfront something no-one could probably tell you in person because of your anger which is that you need to do something about it. If your anger is at levels where you are breaking stuff (which is straight up physical abuse if you are doing in front of family and kids btw) then you have a serious problem.

OK, I am now going to assume you are genuinely concerned. Nothing to worry about Zoomzoom - the phone incident was a one-off, based on circumstances I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I am not an abuser and my family is in safe hands - they are the most awesome people I know - I wish you knew them. All I really wanted was some help with an issue, that I am well aware of, wasn't ideally handled on my part. Thank you for your concern.

I have sold a few cars before. I type up an basic sale agreement with both parties ID and full names. Vehicle details and that the sale of the vehicle is 'as is' and I put in a clause that the car gets transferred into the new owners name within 2 weeks. Both parties sign and both parties get a copy.

Do that next time.

Thanks Mekon, we live and learn.

Is the phone dead? Have you tried connecting it to a PC?

You know that there are two sets of documents, the NCO which you hand over and remove the car from your name and the one he hands over to put it in his name.
I take it you never did the first part and relied on this guy doing it.
