Legal threat against Eskom's R938 solar power tariff

South African trade union Solidarity has said it would implement legal proceedings against Eskom if the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) approves its R938 tariff for solar power users.

The union described Eskom's application — which it has submitted to Nersa — as absurd, irrational, and unlawful.

However, by making proposals such as this, Eskom is changing from being a millstone around the neck to being an enemy of reliable power supply.

Newsflash, the ANC and by proxy Eskom have been the enemy of the people for decades... so at least this is consistent with what we already know.

Constantly attempting to fight this piece-by-piece instead of actively revolting and turning off literally every single tap dumping water into the ANC black-hole is a waste of time.

The social contract between civil society and the ruling c*nts was broken a long time ago, time to act that way.
Time for the private sector to step up and ignore any and all government rules and regulations until we can reset the clock. These idiots literally have no power other than the power we allow them by putting on their clown suit each time we comply.

If they then provide support for my solar system all well and good!

If not, then I need them to offset my costs for being unable to offer an acceptable service, plus a fee for pain and suffering caused by load shotting (must fix the i key) itself.

Perhaps the Gupta's can return the stolen loot and not for the public to pay?

Paying tax for a service is one thing; to pay taxes for no service is something totally different
Spitting pearls of wisdom. Dirk's on a roll here.

In addition it seems Eskom wants to become the enemy of the poor and the middleclass too.

The utility said its new tariffs would be designed so that, as far as possible, the average customer should pay no more or less than their current tariff structure.
So if I pay zero (eg Soweto), I will pay same - makes perfect sense.
Will they reduce the costs for kWh?

Specifically, users on Eskom Homepower and Homeflex tariff plans will be affected, while those on subsidised Homelight services will not.
Homelight is offered in 20A and 60A.
Solution - change Homelight 20A (cheaper R/kWh)

Configure inverter to limit grid load to 20A (4.4kW) to charge the Lithium battery.
Battery acts as a buffer to load bursts.
You can still draw 8kW from the battery when needed.

To say this is Eskom only is part of the problem. This is debt recovery by Eskom and the Governemnt and ANC. The reason no other suppliers have entered the market properly in 15 years is Eskom cant afford to lose customers but yet cannot afford to fix the problem. ANC/Eskom dont want to have to pay other people to feed the grid because they simply cannot afford it even though it will help fix the problem.

Eskom: Please don't use our product we don't have enough for everyone. We have to take turns using the product.
Eskom: Please use energy efficient products to lower usage, switch off devices when not in use.
Eskom: We will charge you a tariff for not using our product enough. Less usage more tariff.

Welcome to socialism.

City of Cape Town did exactly the same thing when they told everyone to use less water, and then when everyone did, they added a monthly tariff to have a pipe connected to your house.

Someone has to pay for the grid. Who knows what the cost of that is though...

The only way to get around this is to build a house in the middle of nowhere, where there is no Eskom grid and fully rely on solar.

What is the "Effective rate" per kWh (once network, service, DSM, kWh) are all added?

Eskom needs to radically reduce the R/kWh with this proposal.

These proposals need to be as follows:
1) R928 network fee
2) TOU kWh rate
3) Fair rate for kWh fed to grid (eg 80% of what they charge me )
4) Unlimited grid feed in

This would incentivise PV users to grid feed and have a battery to offset the R928 fee.
You could even make a profit.

I waste about 5kWh per day with my PV system as battery is full and I don't grid feed.
I would add 8 more 400W panels.
This would generate ~16 + 5 = 23kWh per day * 30 days per month => 690kWh/mont0h * R2.00 per kWh => R1380/pm

R2.00 per kWh is much less than the effective rate that Eskom charges us.
