Finally, two photos of the damage to the LHC can be found here.

Also, for links to the talks where the photos were shown, you can get them on the US-LHC blog.

The current plan is to have all the magnets back in by April, then a couple of months to cool down again, to start up in (their) summer next year.

From the latest report:

The first two new magnets have already been installed in their tunnel positions this week in sector 3-4, as replacement for removed magnets. It is foreseen to complete reinstallation of all magnets in sector 3-4 by the end of March 2009. Interconnections work will start beginning of February 2009, and will be completed by mid May 2009. After final pressure tests and cooldown, the repaired sector will be available for powering by the end of June 2009.

Can't you people see the obvious? The LHC is quite clearly a doomsday machine.

It will keep breaking and breaking and breaking and it will never work. This proves that there are multiple dimensions and we are always in the one where we are alive. The LHC will only work in those dimensions where we die.

ROFL :D

Well it is possible with the multiverse theory! :D

It's called the bathtub curve and it's pretty normal with new facilites like the LHC. Bummer with the LHC is the dipoles and quadrupoles are low temp superconductors and they take an age to cool down.

Claire (I'm being lazy here) do you know whether the LHC is weak focussing (using combination magnets) of FFAG?
