Hey there

So I want to join the WUG and have some questions...

1) I see the Mikrotik solution is recommended, but I assume any 5.8ghz solution would work? The reason I'm asking is that due to me living in a compex which inhibits me putting dishes/grids on the exterior walls, a solution such as the Ubiquiti Bullet seems less visible and is cheaper?

2) I saw myBB is sponsoring a Heuweloord tower - when would this be complete?

Hmm... I'm sure I had more Q's... will post as I think of them...

1. Ubiquity does not support mikrotik protocols like nstreme. Using the bullet you will still need an antenna like a grid or a panel to make it work. Best would be to get a panel antenna integrated in a enclosure with a mikrotik routerboard inside. A CPE from miro of scoop.

2. Heuweloord has been installed - please see http://www.ptawug.co.za/ Latest News

Thanks protzkrog

Besides the extra miniPCI's and LAN ports, is there a reason to get the 433 over the 411?

no, but the extra mini pci slots let you expand the network, installing more antennas so others can connect through, or connecting directly to another user.

The reason why PTAWUG is so big is because 90% of the users not only think of their own connection but the wug as a whole and other users or prospective users.

Many highsites started off as users that expanded and helped those around them.

Ah ha! now its making sense, i didn't realise by adding another card I could then become a repeater so to speak...

So I'd need 2 R52s then, 1 grid and 1 other omni-antenna? Could I use a CM9 to go dual band and connect people in the complex via 2.4ghz?

R52 can do both 2.4 / 5.8ghz.
