So myself and a friend were the official photographers for another friends wedding (well, second wedding party for the family/friends on this side, since the wedding was in S.A.). This was the first one that I was not just a guest taking pictures in-between.
With that in mind, some thoughts. Those of you that do lots of weddings are welcome to comment.
1. I wish I could have been involved in picking the venue. Light was an absolute nightmare.
2. Shooting outdoors with flash exposed one limitation I hadn't thought of. Sync speed - I suddenly found myself restricted to 1/250 or lower shutter speed. Which was a bitch since it was really bright and sunny but the way the venue was laid out, weather inside or out, there was always very bright back-light.
3. Don't put to much faith in the wedding program.
4. When #3 happens, it really helps to have friends at the wedding who are also involved (bride's maids, coordinator, etc).
5. Guest and official photographer is mutually exclusive.
6. I wish I had two bodies
7. I'm really glad I rented the 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM II
8. I'm devastated that I couldn't get the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM instead
9. The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM absolutely poops on Canon's 50mm f/1.8 and f/1.4 (which I also rented). Just saying...
10. The Sigma EF 530 DG Super flash proved what I suspected all along: it's cheap for a reason.
Did I miss anything?
