Some Wifi plug help needed

What about this. It seems that it works without a hub. But is also compatible with Homekit so the Apple tv can connect to it
Those non-ZA plugs are shitty to use with the adapters needed for either one or both sides

This home made job may be better

They sell that fitting that goes on the wire seperate. So I could always buy a few of those and fit them to the lights wires. The tanks are in different parts of the house

Oh I thought a normal 2 pin plug will fit there.
Looked like this new plugs that they fitting in SA
A ZA 2 pin will fit in the one side - but the other is still going to need an adapter for the side that goes into the wall.

If you ever repurpose the plug, you'll need an adapter for both sides

Presumably the fish tanks have more than one wire requirement, such as pump, heater, lights etc so I would rather recommend the Sonoff Dual or even 4CHR3.

SONOFF 4CHR3 4-gang Wi-Fi Smart Switch available to buy online at @TAKEALOT We offer fast, reliable delivery to your door.

Sonoff DualR3 Dual Relay Two Way Power Metering Smart Switch available to buy online at @TAKEALOT We offer fast, reliable delivery to your door.

I would definitely have wanted the 4CH back in the day when I still ran my fish tanks.

No the pump heater etc runs permanently. Only the light has to run for a certain amount of time each day. Long enough for plant growth but not to long that algae becomes a problem. Timer normally works fine, but witj all this load shedding it messes with times on.

So if he really wants to get nerdy he could even do temperature monitoring and operate the heaters himself with a software thermostat.

Pumps can get annoying and may want to turn off for certain times of the day or even just remotely for short periods.

Options are always good.

But sure if the only need is a plug socket then these work great.

Ok so I got him 3 of the Meross smart swtches(yes he was very happy), for 3 of his tanks in different locations in the house.
Went with the Meross as its Homekit compatible and we have an Apple tv that can be the hub, but the also compatible with alexa snd google if he wants to change.
Anyway so he got them running within a few minutes and all worked fine with schedules/timers or just on off with phone.
However last night they were supposed to turn off at 8pm but then we were in load shedding. When load shedding ended they still were on and did not turn of after 10min. So he turned them off via the phone.
Now is this how these things work with power outages. That it will send the signal to turn off on time of schedule but if there is no power it will not send that signal again when power return?
Or is there a way around it?

A hack to get around the loadshedding issues is to set the automations to turn off every 5 minutes during the desired off time and turn on every 5 minutes during the desired on time.

Manufacturers don't make things for countries with power issues :(

I really hate the fact that my geyser defaults to 'off' ... my aquarium light defaults to 'on' ... my soundbar defaults to 'off' ... etc

Yeah unfortunately these things are made for a point in time schedules and not an ongoing range really.

Some will have a default state you can set after power returns and you can somewhat compensate for the most logical thing you want but it will always be wrong at some point.

Still, beats those old twist timers that would just carry on from where they were last.

Unfortunately not having used the particular product can’t give you any specifics. I know Homekit automations also just do a point in time.

Their own software may support something like a default on state with conditions and then you could say IF 18:00-22:00 and power returns then on/off.
