Something to think about

u need a 500watt psu for one of those monsters i don't want to know what u going 2 need for two.

rather get two ASUS EN8800gts 's. Am i wrong in saying the 8800gtx clocks about 10600 3dmarks'06 and a EN8800gts clocks 8100. At R3200 RRP for a EN8800gts I think its better value for money. I run Stalker on full GFX with only one EN8800gts, who needs more.

But if you do need more then get a second EN8800gts in future. Apparently a second one will act as a physics card in sli !!

It's your decision to make, but in the same boat I opted out of the PC hardware arms race and got a console. The choice there is yours to make, but if you get a 360:

a. you've got more money for games
b. You can hook it up to your existing PC monitor for HD, if you don't have an LCD TV already.
c. You've got more games.

R6000 = ps3 (add a grand and u get another controller + 2 games, special)
R6000 = x360 + extra controller + 3/4 games

I dont know. I never enjoyed a console as much as a pc for control and functionality. R6000.00 can buy you a decent platform for a PC thats bound to last and be upgradeable for a good couple of years. Seems like a better investment.

But hey whatever blows your hair back right?? :)

Exactly, it's your hair, blow it back how ever you see fit ;)

The only other question is which platform has more of the type of games you want to play?

Not really. Obviously the 360 has more and better games than the PS3 has now. Let's be honest, the 360 beats the PS3 in most comparable categories. Price, online gaming, available games etc. So at the moment the 360 is a better buy than the PS3. But we all know that already. But still some people want a PS3 rather than a 360.

I think the PS3 will catch up really quickly with it's games and soon we'll see some real competition. :)

The irony of your question is: In 2 years time, a R6k GTX8800 card is going to be entry level and sold for R300.
Can't say that for a PS3, although in 2 years time you will pick it up for R1500 with 2 controllers and a game or 2

I think for a safer bet invest on a console of your choice. At least its got true plug & play functionality and better online support than their PC counterparts.

The wonders of sli and quad sli u could just pop in another one when it's cheaper.2*geforce 8800GTX will surely beat any ps3 or x-box.

RPG's! Like Oblivion and Morrowind and Baldurs Gate :) Guild Wars

And RTS and TBS like Civ4 and Warhammer and Rise of Nations

Also games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R, GRAW, Unreal Tournament, those are pretty good :) and BF1942 and BF2

guess that makes me more of a pc guy.

edit --- Give me a mouse and keyboard for a console maybe :/

Oh and I also loved some combat flight sims like IL2 Sturmovic and USAF back in the day :)

Who has ever played F19 Stealth Fighter and JetfighterII LOL!! :D those are really old. Also streetrod and Sierra Pinball :p ahhhhhh the pc lives on

Well, off all the games you mentioned
Oblivion - 360/PS3
Mass Effect - by Bioware = Baldurs gate
There's a lot of cross platform RPG's coming, so they're about even there.
Of exclusive note though is The JRPG's like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
Not to mention things like Two worlds, Warhammer online, Overlord and Age of Conan, but I think a lot of those are PC & 360.

RTS, PC's going to win no doubt, BUT
Battle for middle Earth 2
Command and Conquer 3
Halo Wars

Are all RTS on the 360, so you wouldn't go without

Of all the shooters you mentioned only STALKER hasn't been announced for console but UT, GRAW and BF(Modern Combat and Bad company) are on 360 and some on PS3, as well as some really fantastic 360 exclusives like Halo 3, Gears of War and Shadowrun (actually 360 vs PC!).

I remember F19!

Flight sims, I don't play so can't comment qualitatively, but there's blazing angels, Battlestations Midway, Over G fighters and Ace Combat 6 coming out shortly, and Project Sylpheed if Space combat is your thing.

On the keyboard and mouse bit apparently some PS3 games let you use kbms for FPS, i think resistance. Please can someone else confirm whether it's true or not. I know Epic wants to do it for Unreal tournament 3.

what you do get a lot of on Console that you don't get on PC -
racing games: Forza 2, DiRT, PGR, GT.
"Platformers"/ 3rd person action. - Eg Dead rising, God of War, Kameo etc.

Oh please ! the ps2 is almost 6 years old and it still sells for R1800 or something.

The ps3 will only be that price is another 5-6 years .
The card also wont drop that fast. sorry josei !

Also who in his right mind will go for the card rather than a ps3 ?? you get a FULL GAMING SYSTEM that will last an eternity ! where pc games only live a short live. ( i wonder why my win95 games and FFVII does not work on XP ?? )

another thing to consider is resale value. Lets be honest, 2 year old computer components hold almost no resale value, in 3 years time, should you chose to sell a console it still has value.
