Hi guys

I have been screwed by House and Home

Promised to deliver my LA40B550 a week ago(30/07), now new ETA is next wednesday (12/08)

Now I have a choice to wait till next Wednesday for the LA40B550 or I can take a Sony V550 as they have stock

Is it worth it to wait for the sammy or take sony, is the sony better?

Thanks guys!

I'm a fan of the Samsung screens, and would suggest waiting if you can. My LA40B550 is great and will recommend to anyone... :)

You will probably find that both have the same panels. Most of the Sony Bravias use Samsung panels. (Very difficult to find the actual panel as the Sony & Samsung model numbers we get are different to the rest of the world :()

Warning, series 5 panels are part of the A,C,S thing they did on PC monitors... I have the series 5 - took it back three times before I was happy...

Still got a fraction of bleeding in the top two corners - but I'm probably one of two people in the world that'd notice.

Other than that I love the monitor - would prefer to upgrade one that goes blacker though.

Just need to correct you a bit. Sony does not use Samsung panels, they use the same panels from a company owned by Sony and Samsung.

Id go for the Bravia, its 100Hz right?

I think game and macro are doing the V series 40" full hd for R11999.

I have to pay R1000 in on the sony, but I think it is worth it

The sony has the new Bravia 3 engin, dont know if its better than the bravia 2 engin, reviews say that 3 engin plays SD better than any other LCD, I'm hoping it will

So the extra wait was worth it, R14000 for the sony 40V550 and samsung P1500 Blue ray sound like a bargain to me! :):)

Samsung panels are quite a lottery - went to decorex and had a look as Hirsches and Masons had a bunch of tv's there - I would try and get the 650 panel - if you look on the right-hand side you can see what panel the tv is using - the 550 had CMO, and the 650 and above, from the small sample there, had the SQ01 - which is the best panel n terms of backlight bleed, clouding and viewing angles - their A grade!

But, back on topic- the v5500 is a great deal, but try and get the new sony bdp 360 blu-ray player fully BD 2.0 profile and going for R3,400 at Cats digital -its on my wish-list! Or the samsung 1600 -its the upgrade to the 1500 and is also Profile 2.0

This thread is fairly oldish, but personally I would take the Sony over the Samsung ... but generally in the end ... even if there is a difference, once its on your wall with no other TV's to compare ... there are no problems :)

If you haven't received the Samsung yet, take the Sony ... you won't regret it.

Lol are you a rep for Cats Digital? Your sales guys are useless and they stink, please give them breath mints...

Btw your prices are good, but I still went to Dion Wired...:) Coz they matched your prices hehehehe

Well if you decide to take the BDP-360, then you can use MyBB100 as a R100 of coupon :)
Anyone can use this coupon, the only restrictions are use of once per customer and shopping cart must be R500+

If you need any assistance with information, don't hesitate to ask :)

Just something that ive heard that changed my mind about SONY tv's. I might be wrong so please dont be too nasty.

Sony doesn't have factories in South Africa like Samsung and LG does. so if something happens to your TV outside warranty it gets shipped back to USA or wherever for repairs but the LG or Samsung is fixed locally.

Let me know if im wrong cause it was a reliable source.

Howzit.

It is true that LG and Samsung have local factories, however from experience with repairs (This is our repairs department, not sure about others), Sony and LG are the best when it comes to turn around and average around 10 days, sometimes up to 15 days. Samsung however aren't as good with repairs, sometimes the turn around time is also 10 days, but it isn't consistent. They also don't always service the parts themselves depending on what the issue is.

Hope this helps.

Samsung vs Sony

Hi Guy's
I appear to be in the same boat. Cannot decide between sony or samsung.
By the way the Sony is available at Rendo's Audio for R10999,00 and Samsung for R 10500,00.
Anyway they also showed me a samsung 610 (100hz) on special @ R12999.00
Please help here as it just get more confusing and all i want is to buy the right unit not to have to replace in the next 5 years.
