What a load of rubbish. I'll admit it, I'm a Playstation fan, have been for years now. Unlike many South Africans I did get a chance to play competing consoles like the N64 and such when I lived abroad where it was more popular than the PS1. However I'm still a playstation fan and there is a reason why; Sony are responsible for some of the best games of our time. Think the Metal Gear Solid series, think Gran Turismo. A consoles success isn't determined on gimmicks, its determined on the games that come out for it.

Quite frankly I think the Wii will sell tons of systems, but I won't be buying one for the following reasons.
a) The "remote" is a neat idea, but like the eye toy and the dance mat, it will be fun for a few days and then you will get sick and tired of looking like a loon playing a game. It reminds me of the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D gamepad with the motion sensing, it was lank cool for an hour, then I turned it off so I could play my games properly. The "kiss" saying works here "keep it simple stupid".
b) Microsoft will have a better motion sensing technology then the Wii, called Prime Sense. Its been compared to the Minority Report gloves on the virtual pannel, except no gloves are needed. More info here. It should be available for the launch and should be pretty cheap too from what I've heard.
c) The games: this is what really makes or breaks a system. Even thought the N64 was the superior system in terms of performance, its games sucked mar a few, and I believe once all the little "remote gimmicks" have been done to death and people get sick of it, Wii will have little to offer in resistance to the power of Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy, and the many other PS3 only titles that will rock the world. PS. what the hell was the big deal with Halo, I played it and thought it was ok, but after all the hype I found it VERY average. I prefered Killzone to it but lets face it, the PC will always dominate the consoles in this department.
d) The whole price/new technology issue has been brought up many times, but think of it this way. Like HDTV, you don't need a camera,mp3's, color screen, java etc on your cell phone, there are phones available for under R100, but we'd all much rather spend that more for the new technology. Likewise why get a Wii when you can get a PS3? Makes me think of Jeremy Clarkson talking about the "baby aston martin" he couldn't find the point of buying an Aston Martin but then getting the "cheap / poorer" one. He said if he got it, everytime he looked at it he would just feel dissapointed.
e) I am a PLASTATION FAN!!!:D

I know tons of people will disagree with just about every point I made, but I really think every Wii owner will get tired of the remote, look at his friend playing his PS3 on his HDTV, become extremely envious and feel disappointed that they tried to save some cash. In the end, they will end up getting a PS3 as well:D . Now be nice with the replies, no obsenities ok. ;)

Nah.

When I get tired of playing on my Wii, I'll just switch over to my 360, I bought with the change I would've spent on a PS3 :p

So I get the cookie and the Cake . . .

All three have really great exclusive content coming their way. The short term problem for PS3, is that Wii, 360, and the kingmaker - PC gaming can all share assets, PS3 can't. If I build an engine for a PC game, it ports very easily to the 360. If it supports lower spec PC's, the assets will be there for the Wii. PS3 engine architecture has to be radically different.

3 for the price of one. Bingo. That's not just conjecture. That's what's happening. Just look how many dev shops have put PS3 dev on the back burner.

I have to agree that the PS2 is a great console and till then there are some solid games being released for it.

Yet what upsets me is the arrogance in which Sony is trying to incentivate regular gamers to buy the PS3 when its out. BR is in its infancy and could end up being a Betamax blunder, plus the costs of making games for the PS3 are the highest they have EVER been! I dont want a rehashed MGS or FF game, please give me something NEW and refreshing that is worth spending the money for seeing they will have the hardware to make it.

I got the X360 and glad it did as it will prevent me from having to upgrade my PC at least until Vista is out. Till then there is a plethora of games out there that are great and even play better on the X360 than on my PC ( which isnt a slouch btw ).

Plus the whole idea of finding people online via LIVE and playing most of the games this way is a fresh experience. In regular PC online gaming we get the hackers and abusers which smear the experience, on LIVE its not easy to hack or abuse a game since you can easily report the culprit or the games dont allow it.

Overall the Wii seems like a valid add-on to the current X360 experience seeing it wont break my piggy bank and has some potential in its innovative games.

my 20 cents. :p

Erm, Nintendo released some of the most classic titles/franchises of all time, notably Mario, Zelda and Metroid among others.
