Thanks, yeah I did the comparison and its the batteries, and I think the V series has a clock function.... i think its all down to aesthetics.

I have not been able to verify the makro salesman's waffle about contrast ratio being double on the V series.

Shot for the pics alf. The V is bravia gen 1 I think and the S is S400 Bravia 2.

I'll go in and ogle them myself today and make a decision.

Game added the HDPVR to stop people doing the price beat on the S series on the makro price. They were getting caned for that over the weekend.

i am also in the same boat as far as choosing between these 2 sets, but now, after judging from the comparison table, they are the same damn TV's!! it doesn't make sense. at least it makes my decision easier. S :)

I went to Makro where they finally put the display models up and I must say the V looked much much better than the S (not picture, casing and stand). I thought it was worth the extra bucks so picked up the V. Really enjoying it I must say.

shot - only disappointment is that bravia sync (contol over hdmi) does not work with my ps3 phat - looks like a slim is on the cards in the future...overall what an awesome set though. sony ftw.

Can anyone please help with the distinction between these two sets? The specs on sony website look identical.

Some resellers are claiming 60000:1 on the V series and some are claiming 33000:1 The sony website does not have this.

Whether this will even make a difference I don't know but if anybody can recommend one over the other? The S 550 I can get for R1k cheaper than the V 550.

Thanks

I was at Makro today and the salesman was saying the 40V550 is 60000:1 but the tag on the set shows 33000:1. Any idea which one it is?

I am thinking of getting the deal they have with the 40V550 and HD PVR for R12999.00

At Tafelberg furnishers, think they're only in CT.
V was R9999 and S was R8999 last week.
Best prices I've seen.
3 year guarantee on them.

I just picked mine up....

I went for the S Series from Tafelberg R8999....

The diff between the S and the V.....The V has a swivel stand and a built in clock....for a extra 1000....

R6000 for a HD pvr kit is nuts....*decoder + dish + install*

XD

Those are awesome prices Alf.

As for your query Gushesh, it seems that the sets are identical apart from the casings. That Makro 60000:1 is a load of BS. Makro salesman are spewing that drivel unfounded. I went for the V myself because it looks sooooooo much better than the S. For R500 was worth if for me.
