Just wait two months and save yourself R799.

I paid R999 for my P990i and two months later it was free with any ProCall contract.

It's not always like that. I got my N95 for R999 on a Procall 120 and 1 month after that it was R1499 on a Procall 120.

Discovered this puppy myself, yesterday and I like it (being someone who thinks PDA-phones are too big)

Hopefully it'll drop dramatically by January, when I might jump ship from Voda to MTN

Very similar phones in-terms-of-functionality, except for the 8Gb vs 512Mb and the superior sleek black styling.

I just noted that the W960i was announced 1 month after the P1i. Maybe just this once I'll be lucky and the phone I like becomes available in time for my upgrade!
:D

(although I doubt it)

And the W960 got no Card slot, no HSCSD and no Infrared port compared to the P1.
The P1 got a better battery.

I really like the W960i's styling compared to the P1i and expect it to sound better than the P1i. And let's not forget regular numeric keys, as opposed to the P1's confusing 'rocker' alphabetic keypad (I accidentally typed "keybad" there)

Mem: 8Gb on-board. I don't plan to keep my entire music collection on the phone, nor transport DVD's on it :)

IR: :p

GPRS: No real need for the HSCSD for me, since that's what ADSL is for :D

Battery: Correct, but it's still excellent (9hrs talktime vs 10hrs)

Ultimately, I fear the W960 will only be released in SA sometime around April

I must agree. The W960 isn't likely to actually arrive before next year. Also consider that the W950 was never properly released, with most stores not keeping stock and only ordering on demand, as a result the phone was always ridiculously expensive, which I suspect might be the case with the W960. That said, I hope it's not, I definitely want one.

I *wish* that were true, but with the phone only hitting the streets in the UK in December, I would be astounded if we beat them. It would be suhweeet to have that puppy replacing my W800i

I used a M600 which has a similar keypad to the P1, and it's quite nice. Not really so confusing to use.

Hey JK8

Any ideas of release dates, I'm overdue for an upgrade (since August already) and would rather wait for the w960 and then sell my p990i to make up the cash difference for the w960. Or, do you think I should rather go for the P1i and upgrade to the w960 later?

The W960 is the top of the range Walkman phone so I think it would last longer, The P1 will be replaced in the next 6 months. Theres rumours of a P3i.

Wait for it its better IMO and newer in terms of user interface, P1 will be similar to the P990...

Also I think it will give the Iphone a run for its money.... but thats if the Apple sheep start comparing! :p
It might be here by Dec, but im not to sure.
