After reading those posts you'll probably see a trend from "useless firmware" to "great phone" (after a few firmware releases) to "useless phone" (after firmware stopped being updated and memory issues hurt most users). IMHO.

I'm Happy

I can't complain about my. I took one after my HTC was stolen and I could get it for a good price. After doing the firmware upgrade using the SE Update Services I have been more then impressed with what I can do. Compared to some of my colleges HTC's and I-Mate's it's on par.

1) WLAN Internet both at home and work.
2) Voice over IP calls using fring (Supporting both Skype and GMail)
3) ActiveSync over the Web with my Exchange Server and Push Mail

My only complaint is the lack of free software for it but overall I am happy. I utilize at least 90% of it most of the time, and granted there is one or two crashed and I have had one reboot, but considering how I used it it is all something I can live with.

My 2c. I love mine and I think it's brilliant. Everyone has an opinion, but at the end of the day it depends how you are going to use it.

PS: SE is releasing one more Firmware update in August.

The P990i is discontinued. If you're getting a new phone make sure you get a new phone and not old technology.

Actually owning a P990 I can tell you it's an excellent phone. I have no problems. The phone is about to be replaced by the P1i which offers minor improvements over the P990i. If price is no issue then you can wait a few months and get it. But the MTN price (R160) per month for the P990i is brilliant. And while the P990i is coming to an end, it uses UIQ3 which will be supported for a long time to come (it's quite new which led to the initial problems with the phone) so no worries about future software, and the phone is now quite stable, so ignore those early complaints about the firmware in the thread. I can happily recommend the P990i.

And for the record the P990i is not 'old technology' it's quite new technology, it isn't even a year old, released last October. UIQ3 development has only just begun and there are tonnes of 3D games, office apps, and now voip so don't worry about your phone being outdated.
