Hi Guys

Any views/experience on the CX110 +/- R4k

I really want to buy that cam because I can't seem to find the new SD Cam Sony DCR-SX65 anywhere. Was seriously looking into that one.

Problem is that I really do not know if I need the HD recording or if should I rather stick with SD and 60x zoom?

Main purpose will just be capturing my 5day old baby girl growing up and capturing her doing all funny things as young ones do....

Money really isn't an issue here, ALTHOUGH I do not want to/can't fork out R10k+ for a "proper" HD Cam but I don't want to waste R2k (read below)

If the cx110 is a crappy cam, I do not want to waste the money just for the letters HD on the Cam, when I can simply get the SD Sony DCR-SX44 for R2k.

Comparison page. http://www.sony.co.za/product/CompareProducts.action?site=hp_en_ZA_i&models=HDR-CX110E&models=DCR-SX65E&models=DCR-SX44E

Any inputs will be welcome.

I have been using my SD Sony Cam for ages (Mini DV), but I did some HD video (1080p) with my wife's Canon 550D. I have now been spoilt :(
There is no comparison between the HD and SD footage. I can't comment on the cx110, but looks like I will go for a high-def cam soon.
You might not need 60x zoom, as it get's shaky as hell on that zoom level anyway, even with SteadyShot. Also, how often do you need to zoom that far?

I bought the CX110 with that exact purpose in mind.

Compact, onboard memory and great picture quality when hooked up to your HD Panel! (in low light conditions though, it aint that great!)

With respect, comparing video taken with a camcorder and with an SLR are two completely different things.
With the SLR you've got massive control over DOF etc, but generally have rubbish zoom, audio, max recording time, etc.

HD is cool, but your lens and your sensor make a much bigger difference when it comes to quality (I mean, an iphone 4 can shoot "HD" but it's simply not gonna look as good as my 5 year old Panasonic SD camera with a 3CCD sensor).

Have a look at camcorderinfo.com, even if they don't have reviews on the cameras you're looking at you'll be able to get a good idea of what affects what and what's important to you.

My 2c :D
