"South Africa is an extremely important market to them"

Cough splutter. Sony has played the hokey-pokey game so many times with South Africa. They are in , they are out .. they are in .. and then shake stuff all about etc.

As much as I am a huge Sony fan, I've pretty much given up on them. They are all over ZA with their digital cameras, then disappear for years. You need to take your camera to some slightly dodge "center" for servicing - and even then they can't handle some of the DSLR's. Now they are back - but no real support for servicing and accessories .. well best just buy them from the US.

The TV's are similar .. they've been here .. hyped up things like their old Bravia ranges, then they vanish within a year or two .. shrug - then re-appear for a while.. Lets see how long this lasts this time.
Yeah I agree, they behave a bit like Citroen/Peugeot/Renault do with cars, I would never buy Sony or the car makers products because of lack of commitment / service / spares and resale value and suchlike problems..
Make a quick buck and get the hell out approach!

I've boycott them after receiving terrible/no customer service roughly 15 years ago.

My current TV is a 2014 Sony which has been absolutely brilliant and never given any problems. I would definitely love to replace it with a 4K Sony one day.

Rather get the Samsung.

We went to Demo these TV and its pure k@k, massive frame bezel one and two slow as hell. That TV lagged more than my Vodacom Tablet from 2012.

Also, horrible quality when using the OS, it's like a low-resolution tablet.

Just really not a good TV other than on paper.
Which models did you look at? The interface is standard Android TV AFAIK. Same as many media players...

Low resolution and low processing power makes for a very kak Android TV experience.

X80 was the main display model in Incredible connection, seems this is not the Sony we remembered. #Bravia Never forget.

Damn, that's a pity. I'll go have a look. Online reviews of the interface seem positive... Is the Samsung interface much better?

I would also have been unhappy, but in general, it is too expensive to repair most TV faults. After a few year, the value of the TV is low, and the parts are expensive.

My 9 year old Bravia is still going strong... (touch wood).

I just like having more options to choose from...

Now they only good for a gaming console - everything else can sourced better and cheaper.
If they can't crack it with smartphone they no good to anybody.

Er.....anyone bought the latest Huawei 65" smart?

Smooth as butter (but more importantly it's not pixelated, its crisp)
