Sony Xperia Z3 - Not a phone for the outdoors!!

Don't be fooled by the waterproof, shockproof advertising angle by Sony. My Xperia Z3 which I bought for an outdoor lifestyle stopped working after going fly fishing and immersed for a few seconds in water.

MTN would not uphold the warranty, even though basically new as they said it was slightly bent - even if not visible and as such the covers wouldn't work properly.

The phone had never been sat on or dropped and had the best/toughest cover I could find for it.

Now sent to Sony ...but will probably not uphold their warranty as well as they sent me an email detailing every possible reason why they wouldn't and would probably be BER...Beyond Economic Repair...in other words a R10 000 cel phone still under contract that I can throw away because it didn't do what it was supposed to...

By saving a few bucks and misrepresenting their product they will lose a customer for life ...and for all of their products!

Similar issue I had with my Z2, never buying Sony phones again, ever.

I am just gonna gooi my 2 cents in here, after the "Phony" Xperia X10 I will also never buy another one of their phones again.

Crappy speakers (even though Sony was known for their walkman phones) and the absolute worst software support ever. They claimed that the phone couldn't handle Android 2.3 and basically wiped their flagship phone off the update list UNTIL some enterprising young scamp over at XDA pulled it off. They then begrudgingly took about 6 or 8 months slowly crapping out a version for the phone.

I suppose I have them to thank for my willingness to ditch manufacturer bloatware Android in favour of custom ROMs.

Must be lucky that my Z3C survived about a minute under sea water.

I can vouch for my Z2 Tablet and my friends Z3c. Both work perfectly, as advertised. In fact, he goes out of his way to make a point about taking his Z3c swimming every chance he gets, simply to tell other our other friends, "oh hey, look, bet yours can't do this..."
The Sony (Ericsson)s of old and the new phones are not the same, software-support wise. Our Sony's get more updates more frequently than most (if not all) of the other brands, bar my Nexus 5X, of course.

Guess OP just had the bad luck of the draw.

I no longer accept Sony handsets in for repair, they are how shall we say? Not quite as good as it says on the box! :(

This.

I've been in a jacuzzi with my Z3 and was perfect.

Maybe it's just the z3.I got my SO a m4 aqua. What a Fone. It went river rafting with us last week and handled very well. I also floated down the river with it in my pocket and it held well.

I then went on a water slide with it and took a video and the Fone performed well.
