It should be a simple decision. Both handsets have really good pros. I put them side by side for a comparison on GSM Arena and the hardware seems to be similarly spec'd. Both have very nice pros and not many cons I can see.

At the moment I am leaning toward the Z3, as quite like the flavour of the media pros in it. Most I discussed this with today were punting the Note 4. But there were no specific reasons why.

Apart from the usual use, my S4 is used for internet browsing, following sport, forum natter, the odd game, music and photography.

The only concern I have is the local back up for the Sony. Samsung have a number of service centres but I cannot find a similar footprint when I looked on the Sony ZA website ... or have I missed it? Are there service centres?

Also, are there any major drawbacks that I should be aware of with either of the devices?

Wait for the Note 5 to come out, expected release date is within 2 - 3 months. I think it may be worth the wait.

If I had to choose between the Sony and Samsung Note 4 I would choose the Samsung every day of the week .
Samsung have a much better back up system in SA than Sony . I had an issue with a Sony about 12 months or so ago , 4 replacement devices and they all the same issues with the touch screen . Vodacom kept wanting to replace it with another Sony or get it repaired , I had to eventually fight tooth and nail with Sony SA AND eventually they issued Vodacom with a Credit and I was able to choose a Samsung rather than the Sony .

This was just my experience ,but it became rather frustrating when I even submitted video footage of the faults and pages of the reported problem from numerous people on forums abroad and still Sony here said there was no issues regarding their touch screens ,even though Sony international had said they were aware of the touch screen issues with the model and were working on it .

Plus with the Note 4 you get Adh if I remember correctly ? That's a huge plus in my opinion .

Like I said just my opinion based on my own experiences .

I had the same choice in December and went Z3. Here's why.

Z3 has front facing stereo speakers. The Note4 has a rear speaker. Once you go front, you don't go back.
Z3 is water proof.
When side by side the screen difference isn't really that much.

Unless you really to use the stylus, I see no reason to go note 4.

Thank you, Chevron. Do you know what the local support for the Z3 is like in South Africa? It's a good looking device. Just worried about experiences like Connor's

Can use the Z3 with one hand.

Lol! Makes think of an advert like that :)

I am using my Note 4 one handed as I type this on it...

Z3 vs. Note 4 is pointless, you are comparing the very best and most functional Phablet (Note 4) to just another Android smartphone (z3).

The Note 4 has:
The Better Display (larger and higher re)
The Better Camera
SPen Suite (its more than just having a stylus)
A better CPU with a better GPU

The Note 4's Snapdragon 805 chip has proven to be even better than the rushed 810 in the Z3+/Z4.

You must have huge hands. I couldn't use the Note 2 one handed with a standard keyboard. I love the Z3, way better than the Note 2 imo. I have no experience with the Note 4. I doubt the Note 4 beats the Z3 camera. I never used the stylus. The Z3 is super fast. Incredible display too.

Note 4 is smaller and more manageable than Note 2 despite a larger display. You have zero experience a Note 4 yet here you are going on about it, lol!

The Note 4 camera is quite a lot better than Z3, the evidence is all over the net, from DxO Mark, GSMArena, Phonearena etc etc etc...

I also came from a S4, the Note 4 is quite a good jump.

I felt the Note 3 was easier to handle than the Note 2... Had both :)

All the greatest specs mean nothing if the user experience is bad. All samsung do is put good specs in a phone and hope that's enough. It's only with the s6 has they started to actually think about designs and user experience.

They started truly thinking about design and user experience with the Galaxy Alpha actually, they removed a lot in TouchWiz from then, and they continued with this in the Note 4 and then got heavier with the cutting in the A series and S6 range.

The Note 4 remains the best phablet due to their heavy focus on making a phablet more than just a large phone.

why not the LG G4? been on mine for over a week now, and its by far the best experience I have had with a phone.

normally any phone you use has a little thing that you learn to live with, be it the size of the note, the non removable battery in the Z3 the camera in an HTC.

the buttons on the back was the thing I though would annoy me about the G4. after a day whit it I wonder why no one else has done this. don't take this as me being fanboy, the way your hand sits those buttons are always in reach and it actually just makes sense.
also, real leather back not plastic made to feel like leather in the Note4.

at least consider the G4 before you get anything. hold it, use it then decide
