I flashed mine with the Latin America lte variant when it was first announced and I had none of the trouble you guys seem to be having. No idea wtf the local carriers have done to it.

weird...

I'm a sucker for punishment, and I see that there is an update to the Generic LAM firmware, so I'm going to flash it today: Firmware: 23.5.A.0.575 / R2D

Ok, I tried D5803_Customized GEL_1290-6916_23.5.A.0.575_R2D, but that didnt work at all.

So I went back to D5803_23.5.A.0.570_R2D_Latin America Generic_1290-6916, and it worked better than the first time I tried it. I then used Xperia companion to update to the latest software, which did not work last time.

It has updated, and I take this to be a good sign that the flash has been (more) successful.

X-posting here in case some xperia compact users have been in a similar situation:

My Z3 compact digitizer seems to be slowly dying. Initially the top 20% of the screen stopped responding to any touch events, now the bottom row of buttons (back & home) are also non responsive. It also randomly unlocks the phone in my pocket, so have decided to put in a strong keylock.. now it just keeps dialing the emergency contact. The screen works perfectly and has no scatches or cracks.

MTN said they'll ship it in for repairs to JHB, but that process may take 4-6 weeks!

- Has anyone had experience with mtn/sony repairs - Is this how long warranty repairs typically take?
- I do not have a backup phone - what would you recommend for a cheap phone for the interim.
- Best way to backup all my data from the device before giving it to them?

I had the same issue. I had the Multi Touch app to show Vodacom that the status bar area and a long strip down the middle-right wasn't functioning. No scratches on screen, and was taken care of properly.
Vodacom sent it in, 6 days later the digitizer was fixed and working, and they even fixed all the small cosmetic issues and my broken audio jack (I didn't even mention it was broken).

Thanks for letting me know. I also used the touch tester app to illustrate the issue to the people in the store. 6 days sounds quick - im not holding my breath with MTN though...

You can use the service menu to check everything else on your phone. Dial *#*#Service#*#* [*#*#7378423#*#*] and go to the third option, service tests. It's a useful menu to just check if you have any other problems.

Saw this in a YouTube video a while back, to check if your phone is still waterproof using the pressure sensor that's in the same service menu. In the pressure sensor test screen, with all the flaps closed, slightly press the centre of the screen. If the pressure changes (increases, no air can escape), then your phone is waterproof. If u open the flaps, and then apply slight pressure on your screen you'll notice it remains stable.

I assume you not in Jhb?
Repairs can take that long, especially if MTN doesn't do it themselves(which i assume), they most prob will send it to SSSCellular. These guys are good, timelines are valid.

Backup on the cloud, Google/Dropbox etc.

Thanks - I used as well when this issue first started. Ive also tried this on another app called "YAMTT" (Yet Another MultiTouch Tester) and got same results.

Im in DBN. The MTN consultant said it would be sent to MTN JHB and then some Sony repair facility (not even sure if that exists - so maybe ssscellular like you said). Lets wait and see. I'll drop it off today or tomorrow and post back here when I get it back.

Do any of the people who have updated to MM use Nedbank or ABSA?

I believe that people upgrading to MM on the LG G4? (I think) have found that their USSD notifications don't appear on screen after the update.

I'm not sure. I haven't updated it as yet, but here's a screenshot with the build number:
