Hey guys, have the flu, had it for about 2 weeks now, tried to just make it go away on its own. Only went to the doc Monday afternoon.

I was given Sandoz co-amoxyclav 1000 disp tablets

But since taking it my throat has become so sore and swollen to the extent where I cannot even swallow without immense pain.

The more I take the more severe my throat pain becomes.

I forgot about it cause it was a while back, but I realized that this has happened before to me, when I took anti-biotics last year. (On that occasion I just stopped taking them after I got better, something I know you're not supposed to do).

If this continues I won't be able to finish this course either.

Anyone else get this? I believe it's called Thrush.

go see the doctor.
you will get stabbed with a needle, likely then advised to stop the meds under medical supervision.

Well, "thrush" generally refers to a fungal infection of the female parts.

Oral thrush also refers to a fungal infection so I'm afraid antibiotics won't do squat.

However, if taking antibiotics is causing you to feel weird/funny/sore/ill/worse then you might have an allergy to that specific type.

And, as the old saying goes--antibiotics won't help against a viral infection (which is what flu is).

Oh, and of course, sage advice: talk to your doctor about any concerns you may have.

But antibiotics can upset the number of normal bacteria in your mouth, which can cause oral thrush. Best to go and visit the doctor again.

On a serious note, it is possible that you are allergic to penicillin. Try gargling some luke-warm salt water for temporary relief.

PS. My wife was not amused with my earlier remark! :D:

That's true. Although, I'm struggling to understand why a doctor would give him 1000mg antibiotics for... what? Flu? :wtf:

I didn't know any of this.
1) I hope my doctor knows I'm male or assumed I meant oral thrush.
2) Oh god if I misdiagnosed myself:sick:
3) So anti-biotics don't help for flu? My sick certificate says I have 'Acute "something" Influenza' (I can't make out the second word, god damn doctors writing).
Dibs on your pc stuff. :p
Pff, my medical fees are worth more than my PC.

This thrush is worse than the sickness I had, uuugghhhh

On the phone the doctor told me it's very mild, cause I asked if the anti-biotics were too strong for me and that's why I'm getting the thrush, did the pharmacy maybe give me the wrong thing?

Your doctor knows that you have influenza but prescribed antibiotics anyway? :wtf:

Whenever I get ill it's courtesy of a sore throat. I wholeheartedly empathise :(

What the hell, how did she get through med-school? (Okay well I guess I can't say that, but still).

So now I'm even more prone to illness cause of the anti-biotics.
This is weird, maybe it's that second word I can't decipher.

I'm gonna take a picture.

What does this say?

So you doctor prescribes antibiotics for the flu, and then faxes you a new prescription without seeing you, when you have new symptoms?

Sounds like you need to find a different doctor, she doesn't sound responsible or diligent at all.
