HI,

I've been told that creative cards are superior to the cheaper cards, I just dont know if it's worth the extra bucks.
I just got my first set of 5.1 speakers and need a 6 channel sound card.

Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated.
Also, if you've got a second hand card lying around lemme know!

U can pickup the Sound Blaster LIVE! 24-Bit PCI 7.1 Sound Card for R250-R300... mayb less. I would say its worth the extra cash, support for the cheap cards just die. Saying that, i dunno much about the quality of the cards.. just that, back in the day, sound blaster was the stuff to have.

Yep SB Live is better than most onboard sound except the NVidia Soundstorm in the nForce2 motherboards.

Thing is I dont want to buy a R800 sound card for my R600 x-530's.

Found Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1, 24-bit for even cheaper, anyone
bought from simplicity.co.za?

Thanks for all the help, I'll look around a bit before I buy.

The cheap boards dont have onboard dolby decoding if I understand
correctly, how resource intensive is it decoding with software like powerDVD, or
have I got the cat by the tail?

thx again.
