Sound Problem

Ok so I built myself a new pc. Thing is the sound is all bad.

It's some Realtek AC'97 audio. When I start up XP (SP 2) the sound is fine. The same is for the Realtek sound manager app in control panel when I run those corny test files in it..

But if I try to adjust my volume in the toolbar, the 'ping' sound is very weak. Also I've tried to play video files. Various ones, but mostly with subtitles and the sound is all muddled and bad.

I've tried installing Klite mega codec pack and still no difference.
Please help me out here.

Well how about the sound drivers for that onboard card. You can get them off the website, probably from Realtek.

I got mine from C-Media, but realtek.com or something should have them.
Once you have reinstalled the latest drivers, you can be shure you have a real problem.

Yeah, I haven't given that a shot, but I suppose it's more of a codec problem (no, honestly I don't really know) since the sound works on startup and in the realtek audio manager.

But I will try the site.

You still need to install the REALTEK drivers, the XP default ones are a bit old. Just make sure you have the right REALTEK driver for the matching chipset.

Yes that seemed to work. I downloaded the latest drivers and all's well now thanks.

Now just one more problem to sort out.
