South Africa's police minister Bheki Cele has apologised for a "blasphemous" remark made by a policeman to praying Muslims as he was enforcing lockdown rules.

The apology, issued on Sunday by the minister through a statement, came after the event was caught on video.

So this story has cracked international news.

I have problems when the only takeaway from a serious incident like this is that the prophet has been insulted and the muslims are upset.
Even your hardline police minister has been forced to grovel and apologise - you do not want to upset our muslim friends.

What else was supposed to happen?

Hell but your are a proper idiot.

The way the police conducted themselves in that video is shameful. They are a disgrace. They should not be working in public service.

And your takeaway from it is that the Moslem community is guilty for demanding an apology. Wonder what your point of view would have been if they behaved in a similar way next time someone in your community does something against the law
Only a disgrace because the muslims say so:
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa Council of Muslim Theologians said not only were the remarks "demeaning in the name of the Prophet Muhammad", but police entering a prayer room with "their heavy boots", as seen in the video, was "distressing to Muslims who consider prayer places as sacred".

That area that failed to adhere to even the most basic restriction rules has been compromised and no longer considered sacred.
Police wisely did not remove their heavy boots to avoid contamination
At this point in time what the president says is more important than what muhammed says.
How many more times must the people intervene when people break the law after being warned numerous times?

What I get from that is a bunch of people violated the rules, then got upset about being caught for it.
Yeah, but Muslims. They are untouchable. If it was any other bunch of violators, sure, no problem, let the SANDF whip them to death, but Muslims will be treated with kid gloves. I mean we don't want to set them off, do we?

You are way more radicalised than any Muslim I've seen on these forums. Don't go blowing anything up now Frankie.

Oh please, if the cops had done a similar thing to Christians and said similar things about Jesus do you really think nothing would have been said?

Were the police unprofessional, most likely - wouldn't expect less.
Do you get to ask the police to remove their boots become coming into your house/church to arrest you for breaking the law? Nope, that's a ridiculous expectation.

Your anti-muslim bias is showing, plenty of Christians would freely admit that what Jesus says is far more important than any president.

The Muslims where wrong, but this sort of attitude to a supreme being over local laws is hardly unique to Islam.

Real Christians are also taught to obey the laws of the country they are in.
Yeah, good to know that no "real Christian" ever broke the law...

WATCH | Eastern Cape villagers arrested over lockdown church service

Eastern Cape churchgoers who held an Easter church service were arrested for breaching lockdown regulations at Khasa village in Elliotdale on Friday.

A video of the arrests was widely circulated on social media, with many users blasting the congregation for failing to obey the rules and putting lives at risk. Those arrested, who were described as being members of the Zion Christian Church, could be heard singing while they entered the local police station with officers keeping watch.

No, I'm pointing out fundamental differences in theological ideology between what Christians believe and what was posted here as being what Muslims are taught.
