Kiss load-shedding goodbye

Professor Sampson Mamphweli of the South African National Energy Development Institute says the country could see the end of load-shedding as early as October 2024.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Mamphweli said several factors, including Eskom's improved energy availability factor (EAF), fewer breakdowns, and lessened demand, mean the generation system is performing well.

We will still see more and more people getting rooftop solar solutions as the price for electricity is going through the roof! Electricity is going to be very expensive until all South Africans that make use of ESKOM's electricity, pay for it.
:p

I don't really get why they keep increasing. They've already said they predict a profit for the next financial year. Now they can start servicing that debt properly.

If they keep increasing prices they're just going to drive away the last few paying customers they still have and ensure their collapse.

lessened demand

This is probably the biggest contributing factor no load shedding, there is less demand from the energy intensive industry like mines and manufacturing (amongst other industries), one data point for job loss data seems to corroborate this,

As soon as those heavy industry users are back, load shedding will start again since eskom hasn't meaningfully increased their generation capacity.

Actually they have increased their generation capacity.

See the green, that is the available generation capacity, see how compared to last year it's 10% higher? That's 10% more generation capacity available than the same time last year, which is roughly 4800MW.

Yeah, cost of electricity will continue rising at rates which outstrip inflation.

Makes me think if we will see more BS fees added to keep the parastatal alive (monthly connection fee, monthly cabling fees, etc)

What nonsense is this? Doesn't he know that loadshedding will return with a vengeance after the electionssss?
The goalposts were shifted to end of July.

Now that July is over, I bet there will be another date.
