South Africa Crafts Strategy for R28 Billion Cannabis Industry

Good (I don't smoke).
Why not legalise online gambling again? (that would create 10000s of jobs)

Can now apply for a loan to grow weed.
SA is really the land of milk and honey after all it seems

when everything falls apart, good to know we have weed on our side.
They should have done this ages ago. The USA is making a killing on taxes with weed. But our idiots would rather not ...

Legalise weed, and all other drugs - enable drug tourism to SA.
Legalise prostitution and place some controls in place - enable sex tourism.
Get crime under control.......

The UAE countries are making a killing on tourism, we have a much more beautiful country for tourism, needs to be safe. And people will start coming to SA to get high and laid.

Make it legal to grow and sell your own instead of working for a big company. There's an amazing opportunity here for individuals as well as taxation.
I agree. Make it completely legal and the market will self-regulate; prices will come down and everyone gets a piece of the pie. People trying to make a quick buck or selling sub-standard produce will quickly get weeded out lol. Obviously, anyone who gets caught selling to under 18s or breaks any other laws gets into kak.

Online gambling is pretty much legal in SA these days. You can legally play roulette, blackjack, poker, slots etc on local SA bookmakers that have had the casino games approved in various provinces. Hollywoodbets for example offer everything from sports betting to casino games and slots online.

Evolution games for example have been given the greenlight and have been on offer for over 3 years in SA. The online gambling industry is saturated and it won't create as many jobs as you think. A new online gambling company would employ perhaps 15-20 people.

No stress, it's not officially legal with the national board, but for example the WC board has approved games, and bookies with licenses in the WC can apply for and offer these games, however it's not the same in all provinces but it's slowly getting there. The industry is crowded though, and very competitive.

Geez, such an odd Bloomberg article, it has absolute no substance. It is a bad article, it hints at the master plan, but doesn't elaborate anything. Their article links to a related article,

but that is pay gated.

Hmmmm...

Okay, Business Insider published an appropriate article,

good read. In an older article, they elaborate on what the state want to achieve through the master plan,

According to the master plan, government plans these interventions;
  • The amendment of existing legislation by removing existing constraints that hinder commercialisation
  • The implementation of breeding programmes for new dagga and hemp cultivars,
  • Supporting research and development programmes for the country’s cannabis industry,
  • Mobilising and supporting farmers to participate in the cannabis value chains
  • Developing new domestic and export markets for the South African cannabis industry
  • Including indigenous dagga growers in the value chain
  • Developing and supporting the growth and development of the manufacturing and product development capacity of the South African cannabis sector.
  • Providing a framework on education and training matters in support of the cannabis industry
  • Communicating a clear and unambiguous message about the cannabis industry and related matters to all stakeholders and the public.

I don't like master plans, interventions are never a good idea when the policy makers aren't good at their mandate.

A committee meeting on this was held yesterday,

I don't know when the master plan will be published.
