Maybe it's just me but I'm not really impressed with those numbers. A more telling sign to me would be the penetration rate.
Assuming we have a population of 50 million, with 250k DSL subscribers that gives us a measly penetration rate of 0.5%, compared to 10% of the USA.
Now we might not be able to match the USA in terms of the size of their economy, but if we're to assume that Telkom still have 2 million fixed lines connected, DSL should be affordable enough for at least half of those subscribers which would give us a penetration rate of 2%.
I guess one positive sign is that it is growing - IIRC two years ago we only had about 50k subscribers. Basically in the space of two years, it grew by 200k compared to 50k in the four years prior to that. Just goes to show what price cuts really can accomplish - something we've always been harping on about and something Telkom almost always turned a deaf ear towards.
