South Africa has the worst mathematics and science education in the world: WEF

Maths requires logic, which collectively, we are not good at. Also a lot of Maths & Science graduates are not staying to teach.
 
Never mind, BEE will ensure that even those disadvantaged by our education system will get the opportunities they need! The rest of the world will also keep feeling sorry for us and give us money.
 
We're last in maths and science but number one in rape and everybody just acts like it's all cool. We will pay for this as a society. I think we already are.
 
Surely it can't be that bad? I am passing my second year maths course at UCT so far. I didn't take any additional maths in school such as AP maths or admaths.
 
Another fine achievement for the ruling party of our country. VIVA ANC VIVA. Wow dont we have a good story to tell. Residents are drinking water with cr@p in it in bloemhof, service delivery protests all over the place, only 3 weeks after elections. Now this fine story highlighting another fantastic achievement

I'd like to point out that the education quality ratings in this report come from the WEF's Executive Opinion Survey, which, as the name suggests, is a survey of the opinions of various business people. Basically, somebody went around and asked a bunch of businessmen, "How good do you think South Africa's education system is?" So the rating might just be a reflection of our pessimism.
 
As I mentioned in the other thread on this topic, "Not at all surprised.... and its nothing new. You dont have to look far to find a climate science denialist or someone who doesnt believe in evolution"

don't worry. SA is quite crap in maths and science. it doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I'd like to see how many "professionals" know what a double integral is - you will see a blank look followed by some poor bull****
 
Nothing new this... we've been having it for a while already.
