South Africa has U-turned on plans for state-owned data centres in the country

I remain in the mind that 'liberation' parties wish to turn private enterprises into cooperatives. All it takes is legislation. I said it previously, and I will say it again. These models do exist.

It is best to keep an eye on the coalitions. Just note that it is not nationalisation, but more being subordinate to the state.

The state does not need their own data centers, they can put the private ones to use. There are many nations actually doing this, retaining their, and their peoples, data within their own domain.

but that's Experian incompetence, its not like the ANC purposefully gave the Chinese access to the entire ID database of SA.
and said here you go China, have fun.
Given the level of incompetence, there is not much distinction between those situation. The Chinese will probably have stolen it before the ANC manages to figure out how to email the spreadsheet.

I think all state owned enterprises should set the example and be run as cooperatives. No cadre appointed boards, no ministerial interventions. All decisions are made by the people who work there.

Yep, it is in simple terms a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Authoritarianism can make it vulnerable to abuse.
