Agreed, but if people are willing to pay for water, they will use it. It is a pricing problem and also a supply/demand problem.

Why not raise water tariffs to construct dams, canals and desalination plants so everyone can have abundant water?

When you see wastage, pollution and non-payment, there is no incentive to save.

They (the ANC) be a cabal of thieves, and are robbing the citizens of the country blind.

In our area there are people utilizing boreholes for this, then keep it running 24x7, then their neighbours start to complain about their boreholes drying up... no water for lifestock (horses etc) but grass must be kept green!

So stupid. Let the grass die. Plant hardy vegetation which'll survive with little or no water, and save the water for lifestock rather.

But people love their green grass and fancy plants etc....

The water crises makes me really nervous given that the war in Syria started because of a water crises.

Nervous is an understatement.
There's a massive difference between sending around Eskom memes, waiting for your next smartphone charge session and driving around with weapons desperately looking for a source of water in the three to four days you have before your die.

Its not the money. Its the fact that you are wasting water in a part of the world that frequently battles drought conditions.

Or they got a lot of water to put on it while it is dark.

I see sprinklers going midday, which is where the waste comes in. And even if you do water at night, tomorrow is another scorching day and you keep on consuming excessive amounts of water to offset the roasting heat.

Then you have the poorly set sprinklers that dump as much water on the road as they do on the grass.

Regarding green grass - we don't water our lawn, the grass will just grow back when it rains. Pointless to dump a ton of water on it anyway.
