I say raise the speed limit on certain sections of the highway (the long stretches between towns) to 140km/h and get people off the roads faster. Increased fuel usage, increased income for government. Win win.

People already having head on collisions due to bad overtaking and control of car.. increasing legal speed makes it worse as transgressed speed will be even higher.

Instead of coming up with stricter idiotic laws they should focus on getting rid of the corruption in our traffic and licensing departments.

The problem isnt people speeding, the problem is people that buy licences speeding.

Only a matter of time before they start charging for turning the ignition on. If they were serious about road safety, they'd be trying to curb moving violations. These are hardly punished nowadays.

Road safety my arse.

How about visible policing to curb reckless driving?
I saw a car turning illegally from the middle lane into another street, literally in front of a metro cop today. Hooted at the cop and asked why he did nothing, looked at me like he had no idea what I was on about. But yeah hey, lets do pointless new laws and re-sign every street and waste more of that tax payers money, I mean they have an infinite supply.

Yeah let's make new laws when taxis already ignore the existing ones.

Visible policing works in some places, but here the taxis feel forkall for their presence.
Because they leave them alone. Too scared to take the buggers on. Our police even run away from people.

Not really sure what the aim of this is because the issue isn't how fast people are driving, it's HOW they are driving.
If you've ever driven the N2 between Cape Town and Wilderness during a school holiday season you'll know that it's people dirving like absolute imbecilles that cause the accidents.

there is method in this madness, it shows they are doing "something" with our money,
even if its pointless laws that make no sense to anybody.
