Look at all the connections! Why is international so slow if there are so many connections and redundancy?

Why does everybody make such a big deal about the nationalisation of the SAT3 cable when there are so many connections?

If SAT3 is too expensive then just use the others surely?

Telkom makes sure the available bandwidth is rather not used than to release it as prices would then have to drop. That way they keep a small group of elitist fools to pay for their infrastructure and development plus exuberant profits with the least amount of effort and money ensuring best returns. It could only change next Year but my bet is the GVT will maintain the status quo! Nothing that a few Telkom Bribes in the next six months cannot fix to achieve a longer availability as the SNO still needs to make their share of the killing and Sentech needs cash seriously!

Actually, the correct word there is 'exorbitant' but you can be for DAMN sure that they're exuberant/happy as hell about the obscene profits they're making! :p (gotta love those views into their minds that people let slip through with little Freudian slips like that...)

The diagram is a bit misleading. It shows 5 yellow lines to the USA. In reality they all run on SAT3 to Spain and then from there to the USA.

The 3 blue lines to Europe also run on SAT3.

So there are not a lot of cables, just 2. SAT3 and SAFE.

It is a pitty the diagram does not show the speeds of the links.

Nor does it show the massive toll-plazas Telkom has erected on their version of the information superhighway.
