South Africa is sitting with R42 billion in unclaimed pensions – here’s how to search if you are a beneficiary

Almost 4.8 million South Africans have unclaimed pension benefits, with the total pension pot worth an estimated R42 billion, says Kabelo van der Merwe, project lead of Unclaimed Benefits at Liberty.

Hmmm, stumbled across this link while looking for a place where I could check if my late mother had any retirement or pension products that we don't know about.

Using this site returns one hit. Apparently she had some or the other pension product with VWSA underwritten by Alexander Forbes.

Only issue I have is my mother was a teacher from before my birth (I'm 40, for the record). until retirement So either she worked at VWSA before teaching (which I'm sure she would have told us about) or there's a glitch in the matrix.

Anyway, I've emailed both Alexander Forbes as well as VWSA to enquire.
