South Africa needs R1.5 trillion to switch to green energy

South Africa requires an initial funding of about R1.5 trillion to transition to a low carbon and climate resilient society for the five-year period 2023–2027, says Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) Commissioner Joanne Yawitch.

Addressing a hybrid Special Sitting on Understanding the contents of South Africa's Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET-IP) on Thursday, Yawitch said achieving the JET IP outcomes is dependent on the scale and nature of financial support that South Africa can secure from the international community to complement domestic resources.

A just energy transition is pie in the sky and isn't feasible just like the NHI. Instead of throwing money down the drain, why doesn't the ANC scrap mining charters, red tape and BBBEE so that private investors are willing to invest which in turn will create way more jobs than trying to repurposing old coal power stations.

Once people have meaningful employment they won't need to cling to dying industries.

The Russian nuclear-energy initiative proposed by Zuma was R1-trillion as well. Strange how this initiative hardly draws the same levels if criticism, despite being a considerably worse proposal.

Then a commission of inquiry will be set up.
After 5 years, some companies will be implicated.
Some of the money will be paid back.
And no one will go to jail

At one stage Zuma had tung twister when pronouncing or utter such words.
Fat cats.

Chances are the Ruskies would have created a backdoor to those plants and have us by the balls this making us into a client state

We could technically shut down eskom and give all houses full solar systems for that price

This is worse. This is offering to willingly bend over and take it up the backdoor.
