South Africa sitting on a goldmine

Nah.

I would say. If you want to push it to an ideal point, latency wise, then the Africa "backbone" might look something like this...

And the ideal country to serve all of Africa, somewhat equally, and adequately connecting to the rest of the world would be Chad.

Take for instance a gaming server as an example many would be able to relate to. This would be a sub 100ms latency for gamers connecting from here in SA. And likewise gamers connecting from the regions surrounding Africa, i.e. Europe, Eurasia, Middle East. So... viable.

In fairness the “well-positioning” is not latency but the existing infrastructure already in place, the combination of those utilizing it and perhaps having access to both east and west marine connectivity that at least currently is considerably better than the rest of Africa. As for Chad - they’re gonna need some power stations first.

Yeah. Obviously in the short, medium and long'ish terms, SA is somehow well 'positioned' in this regard. But we will end up as more or less an end node in a wider network eventually.
