South Africa sued over new coal power plant plans

Environmental activists have sued Nersa and Gwede Mantashe over plans to build new coal-fired power plants.

Earlier this month Mantashe said that securing the right to use coal for new power plants was worth a court battle.

Just look at how long, and the cost over runs, it took to build the last new one! First, we should have existing 'new' stations running at 100% capacity before wasting more money. As I recall it is a lot cheaper and quicker (2 years) to add renewable energy to the grid.

There is probably a lot of employment potential to hire enough people to fart with enough force to turn a wind turbine, should fulfil the millions of jobs the anc promised to make and fatten up the union membership fees to kickback into the anc pocket. New tender would be food and agriculture to feed all those farting workers.

Kusile Power station was initiated in 2009
Initially expected to take 6 years to complete, the project was not expected to complete Unit 1 until 2017 (approximately 8 years after works began) and the entire project not until 2021.


Medupi Power station was initiated in 2007
Completion of the first two units was expected by 2012 but The first unit was commissioned and handed over on 23 August 2015. Units 5 to 1 was completed at approximately nine-month intervals thereafter.(August 2019)


So plus minus 10 years to build a coal power station (Add a few more years since we have doubled/tripled in corruption since then)

If the anc were smart about it, they would have made sure everything worked so that they would maintain a continuous stream of [smaller] kickbacks and stayed in power from satisfied voters, but no the zuptas were too stupid (zuma) and too greedy (zuma and guptas), and now the guptas made a quick exit leaving the rest of sa to hold the near empty bag, which the rest of the anc are going to pilfer.

Actual parasites, as defined in zoology, are smarter than the anc since they don't try kill their host.

We need base load unfortunately. All across Europe they're struggling now because they tried to deny that.

The base load doesn't necessarily have to be coal, but if it isn't it's more than likely nuclear.

I don't know about you but after seeing how badly this ANC-ified Eskom borked coal power stations (a technology the company is supposed to be very very familiar with), I don't want them trying to build a nuclear power station.

Political power is more important to them than mere money especially after all these decades, and it's that which is most under threat so I don't think we'll see that on the whole.
