South Africa suffers self-inflicted snub by Musk's Starlink

No Starlink :p

ANC Thinking:
  • With only 3 million out 7.951 billion people in the world - this is a small percentage.
  • Most people in the world don't have Starlink - only 3m/7.951b
  • We don't need to rush - it's not like Starlink will run out of terminals
  • 100 out of 195 countries - let them be the beta testers

No Starlink :p

Nah ANC Thinking
  • Must have a "local" partner to skim money off the top.
And it stops there.

It's due to BEE. Neighboring countries have StarLink. Government demands Starlink makes use of a middleman company who does nothing. I guess they can pretend by using telescopes to monitor the satellites or do customer support. Musk put his foot down and all countries surrounding us got Starlink except us.

Lol the ANC is not thinking any of that.

They're thinking "If we can force them to have to partner 30% or more locally we can slot cadres in and tap into a major cash cow that we can mark-up more as well".

That's all they're thinking. Nothing more and certainly nothing about the people, their needs or testing.

Uncle Cyril can obviously help but won't since he already has unlimited broadband-internet access from MTN:

He's got to protect his BEE partner(s), thus no Starlink.

And just the other day, I read an article where the ANC says that the only way to effectively grow the economy is through small business and entrepreneurs.
(Btw, this has been repeatedly confirmed by numerous studies for the last 20 years)

And Starlink is the way to do this.
Just allow it in, and we-the-people will do the rest and make magic happen.

Buuuuut, then the cANCer faces the prospect of their voter base educating themselves and skilling themselves up.
And THAT will never be allowed to happen.
