I honestly don't see what the hooha is about. There was a special arrangement, a special visa, it had a time frame, it's lapsing soon.
The article even says there are other types of visas that can be applied for.
Where's the problem? Is it the undocumented Zims to whom this does not apply who will actually have to go through proper channels?
No sympathy. Go through proper channels please. Migrants are fine. Just go through the correct channels.
If something like a criminal record makes that problematic for an undocumented migrant - Even less sympathy (zilch)

Don't stereotype.

I know Zimbabweans and Malawians that are hard workers. They leave their children behind in Zim/Malawi to do the best they can here for their families. No theft, no ****, and they work hard and accurately (and they get paid more than the legal daily minimum of SA lest someone accuse me of paying R50 bucks a day or exploiting them)

Having been an immigrant in the UK, I feel for everyone now needing to make a tough decision. I know what immigrants have to put up with cos I experienced the same in the UK (where strangely I encountered racism/xenophobia for the first time) after living 30 years in apartheid South Africa. Also went through the turmoil of never knowing when VISA could be rescinded because of constantly changing rules.

I feel sorry for decent human beings who are only trying to do the best for their families. This applies to all of us also trying to leave this craphole with the current govt.

My humble 2c
Maybe you are so full of the usual crap that those in UK smelt it from a mile away and gave you the attitude you deserved?

What you call a craphole just happens to be my country and my home, why didn't you stay in the UK when life is so hard for you here?

The Zimbabwean Exemption Permit will lapse at the end of the year and their holders will then need to apply for different kinds of visas to stay or will simply remain as illegals after a 12-month period

Our domestic has to go and apply for her visa in December. She said government would tell them when to apply.
HUGE implications for an employer if they don't have this, so off she goes to get it done this coming week.

Not sure why government would tell them to wait for the call (so to speak), but it's becoming a bit clearer now.

Desperate attempt at misunderstanding....while deep, deep down......................

Oh wait...I hear a creature knock on my door. Your family has arrived early....they better hop to it, my braai needs cleaning for tonight.

If I have to keep teaching you English lessons, I'm going to have to start charging you as this is taking up a big chunk of my time.

If you are having trouble following conversations, get your kids to explain it to you.
Only your "conversations"....

Can ask why there are so many South Africans in New Zealand and Australia, I thought they voted in the referendum to end Apartheid?
For Zimbabweans Zimbabwe is north Korea and SA South Korea.
Fir south Africans SA is north Korea and NZ/AUS south Korea.

Though if they could there'd be a ton of zim people there as well.

My family did say that they were going to the zoo today, so makes sense why they'd swing by. Such a small world after all :D

Yep...it does look like a zoo here....after all the braaing and drinking and kids playing, it is a real mess.

And we cannot be expected to keep this huge WMC house clean by ourselves, I mean that is not the way we were brought up by our NP parents.

Luckily the creatures that arrived, will clean up nicely after us.

We're so lucky to be able to make a contribution and keep some creatures off of the long grant queues...keep this economy ticking over.

Jissis, things sound rough in Brackenfell if your family, neighbors and work colleagues have to take up extra work on the weekends cleaning your house. I didn't know dude, i'm sorry for making fun of it there.

To not derail these threads further, I think we should keep our banter to PMs as I don't think people enjoy participating or being involved in our talks. Drop me a message if you ever want to talk or need help, I have lots of dog food available.

Try have a good weeked and strength.

I don't understand all the fuss. 200,000 isn't even 5% of the Zimbabwean population living and working in SA, legally or otherwise.
