The government has extended the Zimbabwean exemption permit (ZEP) granted to Zimbabwean nationals to the end of this year.

This is despite home affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi recently denying that the government would extend the grace period for Zimbabweans working in the country to migrate to other visas before the December 31 2021 deadline.

On Thursday the cabinet said it had decided to grant the grace period.

Maybe also ask yourself what was so special about them that they got the special permits in the first place, out of all the immigrants in the country why should it only be Zimbabweans who get special permits?

A lot of Rhodesians came to SA when Mugabe took over. Did those immigrants get special permits too?

200k is those who were bothered enough to apply for the permit.

There needs to be a reasonable action taken from home affairs to sort this mess out and either give them some other status like permanent residency or citizenship.

Cannot be a forever refugee, that is temporary.

Lesotho and Angola also had special permits in SA (Swaziland maybe?) Not sure how the decision was made as to which countries to grant special permits.
