Spam call crackdown in South Africa

South Africa's Information Regulator wants to crack down on spam calls in the country, and it has several enforcement notices in the pipeline.

The watchdog recently issued an enforcement notice against FT Rams Consulting for contravening various sections of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).

Really? Also crack down on callers telling you that your parcel cannot be delivered as there is duty owing. Had 3 calls like that today. All BS

I am all for closing down more businesses! Fine them out of existence for marketing their products and services. There are way, way too many people still employed. Let them go look for other ways to feed their families.

We going to kiss spam calls goodbye?

I expect they'll drop significantly after Wednesday's elections.

Answer but keep absolutely quiet - 9/10 times the call is dropped.
For the rest, the moment you hear what sounds like a flea market in the background, hang up.

Say what you want, but this is one of the few government departments actually delivering at the moment. Yes, it was over 2 decades in the making since the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act of 2002.

The problem with most of these marketers is they don't remove you after you say "no, I don't want to pay R5 n day for mommy and me kak" I have a d!ck and balls. Fine them away then. Destroy the jobs of the spammers and scammers.

Even though they're blocked it would still be nice if RCS didn't call me once a week looking for someone else. Despite the fact that we've already established multiple times I am neither a woman or transgender.
