South Africa to get 3 powerships to solve load-shedding problems

Minister of mineral resources and energy Gwede Mantashe has announced preferred bidders for the government’s emergency risk mitigation IPP programme.

The emergency risk mitigation procurement programme for 2,000 megawatts (MW) was launched two years ago following crippling load-shedding in South Africa.

Mantashe said the evaluation process has resulted in the selection of preferred bids totaling 1,845 MW.

So even after two years they couldn't procure the 2000MW they were supposed to?

Way to fail, again.

They announced 1845MW today and another 150MW to be announced shortly.

i see they're international companies but have to work through BEE companies so people who know nothing and do nothing can get-rich-quick. Primarily in Govt and their families i would assume...
The BEE Front is real

Why not nuclear power on the ships?

Because if you made a nuclear reactor the size of one of those ships (all included not just the reactor) the power output will be nowhere near 2000MW.
