Most replies here seem to forget that yes, while the components are manufactured in China at very cheap rates, where do some of the important raw materials come from?

Coltan from the DRC, and Platinum and Arsenic materials from South Africa and Zim, etc.

Africa can be a very big player in the mobile device market, if it really wants to.

People seem to miss the point that you won't pay import tax (might even get a tax rebate on components) in SA and that it's a continuous stream of money flowing in as well as real job creation and not the government sponsored kind. Pity the ANC is screwing the country up so much that there aren't more investments like this but it's better to be thankful for every bit there is.
