Dhoni: "... I'm very happy with the performance, especially of the bowlers, without the luxury of an allrounder, they bowled to the plan that they had."

I am of the opinion that we cant replace Kallis with any current SA alrounder. The alrounder capabilities of Kallis needs to be filled by current players. For instance, JP to focus a bit on bowling and used more, same goes with Faf. Vern can actually bat etc.

We have a few scenarios:

1 - replace Kallis with a current alrounder like Albie or McClaren. Then you dont get either a great batsman or bowler
2 - select a specialist batsman and make up bowling with Faf and JP
3 - select specialist bowler and make up batting with the likes of Vern and Peterson.

I think we will have more spin now though

This is India's 9th loss on foreign soil. How the hell does they stay as the no.2 test team??? Oh wait! BCCI! That explains a lot.

I will be livid if Kallis is replaced with a specialist bat. We can't have only three seamers in the team. It's just asking for trouble. A single misstep from the front line and suddenly a match becomes almost impossible to contain.

Do you think he can be replaced by a specialist bowler though? I guess we can go with an alrounder like McLaren....our batting is strong enough. Look, JKs bowling was good but he did very little bowling the last few years apart from this series, hence a good batsman that can do some part time spin might be an option. India bowled quite well this series with only three seamers. It just means our seamers will have to bowl quite a bit more or we will have to settle with more spin. This might be a good change aswell for SA

They lost a match because of how pathetic their seam attack is and almost lost another. Just imagine if they lost one of their seamers to an injury...

You can't settle for spin in South Africa - especially a Protea class spinner. We don't need more than half a good spinner in our side.

So sure if they're going to drop RobbieP for Abbott and get a specialist bat in for Kallis, then fine Duminy will just have to bowl more. However, keeping RobbieP and Duminy in the same side while getting in a specialist bat for Kallis? Good luck with that; Steyn, Morkel and Philander will spend more time in the physio room than on the pitch trying to get an average close to 35.

Ok I agree with you here. Part of our seamer success is not being overused because Kallis was there for the change. Also, now more than ever we need AB to keep on keeping unless QdK comes in.

By the way, anyone know AB's stats as batsman only versus batting/keeping? I cant think that its worse with him keeping

Ishant's schit. I don't know why he's still allowed to play at the national level. Nepotism?

I would dare to say that Sreesanth is much better than this hack, minus his childlike personality, of course.

Last time I checked sreesanth was banned for match/spot fixing

I was at the ground and it was quite emotional saying farewell to him. He's been our Rock for over a decade. Thank you for everything you have given cricket SA. We were fortunate to see you...

Now with Kallis gone, It makes me wonder what our test line up is going to look like :/

I'm still undecided if we go with the batter or bowler. What I don't want is a bit piece cricketer who doesn't excel in any discipline. I'm leaning on him being replaced by a bowler... Bowlers win you matches and our Top 6 is solid enough to bat. Also, Vern, Robbie P, Steyn and morkel are no mugs with the bat so they could add a small contribution when required...

A massive loss that will never be replaced for a long, long time :( Albie's a decent all-rounder in my opinion.
