Just a warmup guys, I wouldn't look too much into it. The level of intensity isn't there.
That I know, but does our batting not seem a bit thin without De Villiers and Kallis there? Now Imagen Amla or Smith also dropping away

Harmer to Steyn, OUT, outside off stump played off the back foot and catches the outside edge and good catch by the keeper standing up to the stumps

Is Philander going to get a 50? Taking bets.
I hope de Kock makes a ton today so that we can at least have him in the wings as a no. 7 bat and then free AB up.
Being the world's top bat and keeping for the two best bowlers on earth atm can not be an easy task.
Problem is you going in with 4 bowlers. If Robbie gets smacked around, our paceman are going to suffer as they will bowl longer spells.
We can't rely on JP as the all rounder, he can't pop in a few overs but nothing like a consistent all rounder...
I know.... We florished because we had kallis as a 100% fourth seamer and 50+ avg bat, as well as having our keeper avg above 50.
Duminy must get his act together as he has been very underdone with the bat in the last couple of series. So either he must be able to bowl 15-20 overs a day at least or his batting must improve.
I still think our tripod pace attack and a spinner is much more than most countries can dream about. With Duminy helping out if Robbie P gets smacked we should be ok.
I just think with us only batting to 6 and our no. 6 not firing with the bat we might be a tad short.
No i am not throwing Vern or even steyn away, I am just saying they are not batsmen, they are at the best a bit of a bowling all rounder.
Chances are if they smacking Robbie P, JP is also going to get smacked... JP must get his batting up to scratch before he even starts working on his bowling. We can't increase his workload when the main aspect of his game isn't on par with what is required.
I agree that our attack is capable of taking 20 wickets but there will be times when we going to bowl 130 overs and if you don't have a genuine all rounder, we will be screwed.
I would be happy with Mclaren or Parnell at 7 TBH. Our lower order can hold a bat. ( Philander, Peterson, Steyn) so we still bat deep and they could help us get out of sticky situations.
That is very true. But I am of the opinion that if Duminy does not find form and he is not bowling, why not include de Kock (when / if he has proven himself) at 6, thus freeing up AB as our no 1 batsman to focus on his batting and replacing the struggling no. 6 with a young inform player. Again this is all when/if de Kock proves himself for the longer format and if Duminey does not regain form.
De Kock averages over 50 in the FC game, albeit over a relatively short career so far. He's probably the first young player since AB made his debut that I've been optimistic about. Despite his exploits in the shorted formats I strongly feel he will become as important to the test team as AB and Amla are now, in time.
Dare I say it, a WK/Batsman in the same vein as Gilchrist?
Looks like they're pushing for Parnell ahead of McLaren as much as it saddens me.
Why do they call Parnell an allrounder? His first class batting average is only 22.34.Looks like they're pushing for Parnell ahead of McLaren as much as it saddens me.
