Plan to fix electricity and water in South Africa

South Africa wants to give municipal government officials in charge of water and electricity more power by decentralising the services and ring-fencing their budgets.

According to a Sunday Times report, the proposal to decentralise these systems was contained in an Operation Vulindlela document tabled before Cabinet last week.

Muni finances are fooked. Electricity and water revenue, is their main sources revenues. Instead of just the mayor having a fancy car, the head of these institutions will also be driving a fancy car. This is just false job creation with big salaries.

This seems like it's coming out of the blue. If anything it has seemed as far as I can remember that there's intense opposition, from within Eskom and government, to anything even resembling such moves.

But well... It's probably a step in the right direction. My pity to those municipalities that are currently mismanaged though. The people there are in for a bad time, when the ones mismanaging them now, get full reign over such systems.

Pothole bathing is alarmingly underrated.
If the rains don't fill them then the broken pipes do.

Electricity outages not a huge deal either, we're so energy efficient by now my vape pulls more amps than all the s**t in my house. That makes it a bad habit.
If I wear wool slippers I can recharge my capacitors by shuffling on the mat when I go take a piss.
