Hey

I have a question. Why would the current president of South Africa not want to remove Robert Mugabe from power? This is something I do not understand. What does he expect to gain by sitting around, not doing anything while people suffer?

My opinion is that doing nothing while people suffer is a far greater crime that all the tyrants put together.

They are all boeties. A country falling apart and imploding doesn't matter at all. Look at Mbeki walking hand in hand with that bast*rd. Changing presidents also doesnt matter. The ANC wont do anything.

Every leader of a country surrounding Zimbabwe needs to be charged with Human Rights abuse.

The soft hand approach has never worked with Zim. History has taught us that.

Becaue if SA goes over there and try to do it forcefully, we'll get our butts kicked.

I seriously doubt that. The Zim armed forces are not getting paid, why should they fight?
If anyone wanted to take over the country, now is the time.

Anyone interested? :D

Everyone is in everyone else's pockets. You can't get the one guy into sh*t and expect for him not to take you down in return.

Yeah that's true but we can also stop treating Bob with kid gloves.
Everyone keeps saying it's the Zim people that will suffer if we start taking harsher measures, like closing the border & enforcing sanctions. But by us not doing anything, the Zim govt will keep doing what they're doing.

I feel sorry for the Zim people, especially with the cholera adding fuel to the fire, but if we close our borders, the Zim people will be forced to stand up to Bob instead of run away

And here-in lies your answer: http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/may/19/newsid_3030000/3030995.stm

In short, Mugabe provided a safe haven in Zimbabwe for the ANC to operate, arm and train. Everything the ANC has accomplished couldn't have been done without Mugabe.

I wonder how many South Africans are even interested in whats happening there. For now they are not affected. Wait for the Cholera epidemic to move into other provinces and then thats when we will actually do something.

We each have our own battles to fight and this sadly for now this is not one of them.

This is like when kids listen so intently to their grandparents. At first, there is much to be learnt.
Later when grandpa is old and senile, running around with a diaper and claiming to be the lord of the flies, its not so amusing.

Bob has lost the plot and yes whilst I understand and appreciate the fact that Zim has helped South Africa during the struggle. We and our leaders should hopefully know the difference between right and wrong.

But the Limpopo river has already been infected. They say it's been taken care of but who really knows...
It is our issue and more South Africans should care.
An infected Zim truck driver was recently admitted to a hospital not far from where I live. Across the road is a beach that is frequented by many innocent civilians....
What about the people who are infected and don't go hospitals? It's a very frightening thought

The ivory tower created by the ANC means that noses are so far up in the air that they are oblivious to whats actually happening on the ground. They hide behind policies and decade old agreements.
I remember this line from "The Dark Knight"
Some men just want to watch the world burn.

South Africa has the ability, why not make it our responsibility to do more good.

I just hope that they do not declare Zim as a state of emergency ... then all refugees will come flooding to ZA and then we are obligated to take care of them, putting extra strain on our economy and also fueling the Xenophobia fire again.

I think there is or was division in the government on wether what is happening in zimbabwe was a necessary evil or not. A certain level of racism probably played a part in the initial reluctance to intervene. The idea that you could remove the white farmers and in so doing force mass land reform probably seemed like one way to go.

The idea is simple, take the land and give it to the blacks. They take the land, they continue to farm, and instantly the land issue goes away.

I'm glad these events have shown the need for educated white poeple.

My comments are not racist, i'm just mentioning what was probably thought by the extreme right in the anc. I'm not even saying this was the policy of the anc, or that this view moved through the corridors, but i'm sure it entered the minds of a few.

///

i must add though, that i think things are changing, i think the anc are starting to see removing the other is not the way to go, and that we both equally deserve to play a part in the country. I think a slow realization of everyones worth is slowly creeping in.

Why would we want to remove Mugabe / invade Zim ?

Our SANDF are likely going to get a beating, or at least incur losses.

Then how do we ' remove Mugabe ' ? There is no way we would allow him to be killed and we won't hand him over to the Hague either.

Which means we would have to bring him back here and then what ?

We would also have to do the same with all his cronies and henchmen so Morgan can get to work.

It's one great big mess and as I see it the solution does now lie with Zimbabweans sorting it out - in any way they see fit.

It's too late for intervention.

In my view, military intervention in Zimbabwe would simply be to repeat history there, and the outcome would be the same, some nutcase would end up winning votes and become the next president.
