Hi guys,

So I'm going to New Zealand with my parents later in the year on South African Airways 286 (which according to FlightAware is a Airbus A340-600).

I have a Cochlear Implant and can't use normal earphones and need to use this cable: http://www.cochlear.com/wps/wcm/con...eus-freedom-accessories/personal-audio-cables

Does anyone know if I can use this cable directly with the in-flight entertainment system or will I need to buy an adapter like this: http://www.avsupply.co.za/product_info.php/airplane-headphone-socket-adapter-plug-p-667

Thanks guys,
;)

It work fine as long as the connector has 2 stripes on its end

Most planes have the regular adapter like in a cellphone or iPod,

Not too familiar with those, dosent a implant work the same as a normal ear?

The cable I have, that I linked to and posted a picture of, is a regular AUX connection that works in phones, pc's, etc...

I received two of the adapters when I flew on Delta despite the fact that the plane had a regular connector, you should get one from the airline
Still have one in my draw actually

Now thinking about it ......... I usually travel with my own headphones and haven't had any problems on airbus.

I just don't fly SAA ...... for personal reasons.

I like to avoid SAA if possible but don't travel very often and the travel agent always books the first leg with them.

I am 99% confident that you can use it.

I have the adapter that Paul has, and have not had to use it with my own kit.

That aside, the older Boeings may have needed the double plug, the newer Airbus is standardised.

Okay thanks. Will be a boring flight if I can't hear anything on the in flight entertainment system... :D

You can pickup the adapters in the shops at duty free. Duty free is heavily overprices, but why take the risk?

I don't mind paying the R25 to get it from avsupply (which is based in Cape Town) but I don't wanna get it if it's not necessary...

Perhaps I should buy it just in case.
