All South African businesses can receive financial assistance, regardless of race - Minister

Minister of Small Business Development Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has stated that all South African businesses will be able to access financial assistance from the government during the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis.

The minister stated that small businesses will not have to be 50% blacked-owned to be able to access financial support, following reports that BEE requirements would need to be met to qualify for help.

They're probably asking for race because they'll want to distribute it proportionally according to the general population, which is kinda stupid.
What would be the impact if everyone just marked themselves as black?

Oh so it's not fake news, just misunderstood. It's good then to see our country is still supportive of racism :)
But 51% is a very exact number... so that draft was very drafty xD

The Department of Small Business Development highlighted this was a draft document from a week ago and was still under revision.
Document was created yesterday unless all their pc clocks are a week ahead.

We will make sure there are geographic and demographics spreads which are representative, added the minister.
Think about this for a second...

Some is still not happy.

They should have just implemented race limits to keep everyone happy.

By not subjecting the business support to race-based metrics the government is being racist? How is that?

It would be entirely illogical any other way as surely the point is to ensure the survival of businesses - business which employ South Africans of all creeds. Not providing assistance to white-owned businesses would almost certainly mean loss of jobs for non-white South Africans.

It was in the draft document created yesterday despite the gov saying it's from a week ago, the race/bee determining fields remain in the application form, the minister called it fake news and in the same breath said demographics will apply...

This is all very nice, but how are they going to process all of this? They're going to have to vet the business, determine if it has been adversely affected, and meets criteria, etc etc. This is all on nice sounding ideas but short on implementation. I'll wager now that many businesses that apply for this will still be waiting for an answer long after the Coronavirus is a distant memory.

don't spread fake news, in fact, no business will receive financial assistance regardless of race.
